Hi All...

I'm hoping that some kind X-type diesel owner can come back with a definitive answer for me.

My father changed his own oil/filter yesterday, as he did about a year ago. He only does about 3000 miles a year. The time before that oil/filter change, he used a local non Jaguar garage.

For a long time (since the car was serviced by that local garage) he has complained about a rattle from the engine compartment.

Yesterday...instead of fitting the oil filter as it was when he did his own first oil change (that is...how it was left after the local garage did it)...he stopped and thought that the oil filter may be in fact fitted the wrong way up.

Can someone tell me which end the castellated end should face?

Up to the sky...or down to the ground?

May seem a silly question....but the filter can be fitted either way...

I assume that one way is wrong....and my father now thinks this is indeed where the rattle is emanating from
