Yeah socal, I hear you there on the four doors and car seat! If you want to get recognized you'll get a jag! The first time I drove a black 03 x-type sport with wood steering wheel I felt like I was something special...little did I know when I picked my wife up at work and took her out to lunch everyone else thought it was special too! The price you pay and the fact you don't mind a little tlc makes the jag a perfect fit! How old are you so the insurance of that supercharged R doesn't get the best of ya?!!!

Don't get me wrong......i didn't declare the ECU upgrade on the Saab, was lucky and got away with it.
I've declared it on the Audi though, cost me around £200 more, but worth it for the peace of mind knowing I am covered.

Jeez............I must be gettin old...........lol

Yeah its turbo but it is also a 2.5 liter awd and not to mention it is a volvo...I always heard that volvo's were cheap on insurance afterall they are supposed to be like the safest vehicle out there...I thought I was going to get raped on insurance for the jag but the awd airbags, dsc, abs and security system have my insurance down to less than 100 dollars a month...

SoCal_S60R
07-05-2007, 11:05 AM
Could be 1 L...they look at the horsepower rating. Just so happens, my little 5 cyl. puts out the same hp as Chevy's 5.7L. But, ya, the Volvo label does help. Safety ratings still kept my insurance at a manageable rate. Nothing that annoys me. I got a $45k car out the door for $37k, so I'm happy with my overall monthly out-of-pocket.

I'm going to use the whole "It's a Volvo" tactic at traffic court in a few weeks. I got a ticket a few months back and the cop gave me a 75 in a 40! Absolutely rediculous. I was accelerating ahead of a couple cars to get in the turn lane...I would accept 50...or even 60...but 75! B.S. So...I'm going to get in front of a judge...in business attire for that work day...explain I was on my way to work after dropping my son off at daycare...how I bought a Volvo becuase I needed a safe car instead of a sports car...and I even went to the track and ran 5 1/4 mile runs to show my best 1/8 mile speeds were 72mph, consisently. The motorcycle officer was exaclty 2/10 mile from the light I was stopped at. In order for me to hit 75mph by the time he could get a radar reading, I would have to have power-braked it...launched it WOT, and hoped road conditions were equally matched with a Professional 1/4 mile race track. (not likely)

Anyway...I'll update a new thread when that time comes. Hopefully, the judge knows little about new Volvos and has the old "brick" image in his head. :P

"Well your honor I drive a Jag, So I shouldn't be expected to follow the same rules as the common folk." Hmm, should work eh wot?

Not looking to get the ticket thrown out. Just presenting my case for getting a relistic fine issued. The officer listed a radar reading, but did not show me the reading. Radar logs are not loaded into a system at the end of any period. Basically, when you are ticketed by an officer, he/she is basically going on record stating that they observed a specific reading that they are sure was based on your vehicle's speed. So...I will openly submit to a plea of "guilty" if any reasonable speed was issued. The fact that the officer listed EXACTLY 75 mph is a guidline for a specific penalty. The fact that my specific model of vehicle can only hit a maximum speed of 72mph in 1/8 mile on a race track shows that its highly unlikely I could have reached 75mph in 2/10 of a mile, although possible. With all of that being said, the officer was positioned perpendicular to the street I was traveling on, and had to get a radar reading at 45 degrees or more, secure his radar device, and was already pulling his vehicle from the curb as I passed him. That's some pretty quick handy work.

I'm not trying to "get away" with anything. I'm trying to make a point against certain officers who abuse their authority and hand out random fines and tickets without upholding the law, as defined by the courts.

This officer also issued me a Priority Re-Examination form, which required me to take a written exam, a driving exam, and a physcical medical exam, paid for out of pocket. That, and his first question to me was, "Where do you live?" When I responded, he retorted with, "Good, you can walk home from here!" He also made me get out of the car, open the hood..and did a full inspection. Looking for anything he could write up. That day, I got a ticket for speeding based on a false reading that he made up....got a ticket for my tint, and another for no front license plate.

That, IMO, is abusing the badge a little. Its not my fault he got stuffed in the locker in high school and now he's getting back at all of the cool crowd. Therapy is in order.

Thanks.
Ya...I'll be subpoenaing the calibration logs (which have to be current within 7 days here), the officer's copy of the citation (front and back...the back of the original ticket is where they write notes), and any previous complaints filed against said officer in the past year. I'm lucky enough to live across the street from a County Sheriff Detective of 17 years. He works in another county and he despises our local traffic cops. He prefers to fight crime. He gave me a couple tips...including using the 1/4 mi. slips. That shows that I tried to recreate the speed suggested in a legal setting...and that I'm willing to take it to the track to race, vs. on the street.

I'll leave out the fact that the track I went to was at 2700' and I was running pump 91 octane. I usually run a blend of 5g of 100: 13g of 91 amd I live at 1400'.

Let's see....$0. I guess you could count the $20 I spent for track registration. I'm not hiring an attorney. I'm just going to show up at court. 50% of the time, the officer won't even show, and tickets can be dismissed. A citizen has the right to question his accuser. The subpoenas are free. You stop by the courthouse...go see the clerk...get the forms...and submit the subpoena. I think everyone should go to court. If every single ticketed driver scheduled a court date, traffic officers would spend 75% of their time in the courthouse. They'd think twice about handing out random tickets to meet a quota, and they'd be on the lookout for real violations and street racing. The roads would be safer for all of us.

I really destroyed the topic of this thread...did I mention, I'm a fan of Jaguars? Never met an anti-Jag person either.

aquill1
07-09-2007, 06:57 PM
Yeah ken it costs nothing to fight a ticket...unless you of course get a wreckless driving with 6 points or get a major charge like that is when you need a lawyer! I've actually been told to fight tickets by cops before and I recommend fighting tickets. When you fight a ticket here I have said that I am guilty of speeding but use insurance cost the excuse for lowering the charge. The state cares irregardless of what they charge you for as long as they get to see a little green coming in. The point don't matter to them as long as you don't have multiple tickets on your record. Besides you are only out a couple of hours of working time in fighting the ticket. As long as you don't get like contempt of court or something like that you have nothing to lose except a couple of hours of your time. The judge will say nope your wrong you must pay, or "I see no reason why we can't lower the severity of the fine" or the best is when the cop doesn't show up entirely!

Hey socal what date do your time slips have on them? Hopefully after because just because you went to the race track probably doesn't make the judge feel like you won't drive like a street racer just because you go to the drag strip...I'd definitely use the kids as an excuse as to maybe why you were in a hurry or something. I wouldn't use the whole sports car thing as the judge probably isn't an idiot and could find out exactly what you are driving. I drive a s60 R which I don't think the judge would be dumb enough to not know what kind of lettering after the name of a car means....Kind of like when I was getting an insurance quote and the lady said she had been an insurance agent for 20 years and somehow thought that my 900RR would be something along the lines of a harley or honda shadow or road bike and not a crotch rocket! They know that the RR doesn't stand really slow! Good luck though hopefully he has something better to do that day!

Plus if the cop has any idea what he's talking about he would have to be able to see the turbo...right or wrong?

SoCal_S60R
07-09-2007, 07:34 PM
Ya...I went to the track a couple months after I got the ticket. I'll be telling the judge how I've never raced my car before, but I felt inclined to go because I was in such disbelief on the potential of even being able to reach 75 mph in such a short zone.

And no...this cop did not see a turbo. In fact, I can't even see it unless the eingine is cool and I lean over the engine...it's tucked way in the back...down low. Transverse engine in the R. I won't be pointing out any R badging. The ticket says Volvo S60. So..I drive an S60. I won't be lying.

aquill1
07-09-2007, 08:47 PM
For sure...don't ask don't tell policy is a good one...no lying...can't answer a question if you are not asked!;)
But for real I'm with you...sounds like you are on the right track...I don't think you will have anything to worry about the only thing I would say from the start is how you "apologize for wasting judge police and courts time and how you have a good driving record...the only thing I'd say otherwise is that you don't want the points. I admit that I am guilty of speeding but at the most 10 over not 35 over the speed limit. The only reason I was speeding was to get onto the freeway..." If they don't bite on that I'd offer the time slip at the drag strip...but as I said over here they don't car about the points just the 130 they get for the ticket. They gave me a 75 in a 70 which is no points and doesn't even show up...they get their money I get no points and we are both happy. The judge made that choice on her own...she already had a sheet on my driving record that was a blank sheet as this was my first ticket and I was like 18 or 19. Its easier to get out of speeding than a red light or stop sign...

Good luck though and keep us informed....oh and the most important part is keeping respect in their minds...when you show up in nice clothes...I wouldn't wear a suit as it kind of shows you have money...just suit pants and a shirt belt and dress shoes does the job for me...while wearing nice clothes and not looking like a menace to society the judge sees respect and that has a lot to do with everything in this world...

Well, here in Florida, the entire "the cop won't show up" thing won't work! Cops get paid overtime for going to court! Also, they don't have to show up to the hearing, which means that they offer you a plea of no contest, which gets you NO points, but like a $200 fine and maybe some traffic school! If you contest that, then you have to go another day, and then you're screwed because the cop shows up and the judge is less lenient! Traffic in Florida is a PITA!

It seems everyone wants to race me. This a-hole in a Ford pickup truck got pissed when I passed him on a 2 lane on ramp. Tried to squeeeze me out and then tried to ride my ass all the way up I-95.

The only reason he was able to keep up was the damn traffic. On open stretches with little traffic I had no problem seeing him disappear in my rear view mirror.

I wait for the middle finger and that is when I know I got their attention! Someone wants to drive like an ahole I have no problem slowing them down...It's something I call "playing the game" you see someone riding up cutting in and out and in and out no blinker no nothing with nowhere to go...or someone rides you even though there is nowhere to go...I let them think my lane is faster and they switch to my lane...you basically bait them into your lane and than you slow down once they get in your lane enough for them to swerve back over...than speed up and see how long you can play with them! Eventually I either move or let them by and smile my arse off and they flip me off all red faced man I love it! Best part is when someone is driving like an arse in heavy traffic and you end up waving to them in the rear view mirror when you are right behind them and they feel like an idiot! Man the finer things in life!;)

Lol.......one of my favs too Socal.
My variation though is when they're up your ass in the outside lane and you got nowhere to go cos of traffic in front, slow it down just a little, enough for him to wanna change lanes n undertake you. Then, you just keep enough speed so that a nice big gap opens up in front, he's in the next lane sees it, with plenty of room in front of him and goes for it, then you just floor it keeping pace with him till he's all outta room. Its usually good for 2 or 3 maybe even 4 attempts, depending on how pissed the guy is....lol.
I 've had them boiling over big time......getting level with me red faced, giving the V or the finger, mouthing the words that you're a this, that or the other....lol

LOl some of the **** you guys do sounds just straight up asking for an accident.

In chicago we hav a lotta busses on 2 lanes per side steers. So if I see someone weaving, and a bus coming up at an intersection, I'll just sit in the left lane, wait for some *ss to pull up behind me and try to pass me on the right, then I just keep pace with them and they will either give up, or nearly rear end a bus and get stuck for like 2 minutes.

it's not dangreous for me tho, just them

I don't know if Jaguar has this feature on any of their cars, but I know Volvo and Porsche have it. I have a rear fog light. It's just a really bright bulb in the left taillight. Used for foggy driving through the Alps or something I guess...not much use for it in California. Anyway, I love that one when I have people ride my a$$ at night...especially the big pickups that get right up on you and their headlights are right in your mirror. I switch on the fog and just stay in front of them. I've had friends tell me it annoys the piss out of the...especially cuz it's bright red and just on one side...

I was following a G35, which I kept backing way off to give me some running room...I could've ran him off the road several times. In front of him was a MK IV GTI with a 100 oct tune and some other mods...ahead of him was a WS6 Trans Am. The guy filming was a friend of a member in his 240sx with some mods. I think he thought it was a drift car.

I wonder why they put the rear fogs in both the tail lights on the X, all the other cars i c only have it on one. Although i do like that its in both, but i guess the people behind probably dont

Hey 04.........its more common than not to have 2 fogs over here rather than one. Again, I'm generalising, but, usually its the cheaper cars that only have one foglight.
Personally, I 2 foglight as I think it " evens" up the car, lookin from the rear, obviously its doubly as effective when in fog and or poor visibility.

I don't know about the "cheaper" part of that Jim. Not that I take personal offense by that. :P
I'm pretty sure Porsche does only 1 fog in the rear also...I saw a 911 turbo with one on. I think it's more a matter of being able to differentiate between fogs and brake lights....with both tails having fogs, I'd imagine the brake lights would be less noticable...with only one on, when you hit the brakes it should force a standard reaction by the driver behind you. Just a guess though.

i dont think it really makes much difference, but if my brake lights ever stop workin, ill just have to turn on and off the rear fogs every time i barke lol

From that list I'd have to say Saab is the cheapest. This just going by that my friend sold his saab for 400 dollars, although the engine didn't run...and the guy is a mechanic.

I don't know why, but there is something about the bottom half of that pic that just doesn't look right! A little bit too bushy where it shouldn't be!
