You just don't want to fool around with brakes. I mean Really....the alternative is... Well... NO BRAKES! And you just know that aint good. :D

If ABS malfunctiones ,you can still have the brakes .However keep in mind , you will block the wheels due to lack of ABS .You're right brakes are the most crucial thing for a car I think

Sorry to hear about that XJ but ABS problems are costly no matter what the vehicle. A Buddy of mine had his fail on his Chevy Silverado and they wanted $2K to fix it, so he just traded it in instead.

Don't you have a lemon law manadatory warranty period in the state in which you purchased the vehicle? It seems the Dealer who sold you that car ought to be liable, given the fact you've only had it two weeks.

When buying a used car, or even a new one,no one can guarantee nothing will go wrong with it. Jaguars are still burdened with a bad reputation despite many years of redesign and what is probably as good a car as any out there. The simple truth of the matter is **** Happens and things fail. The Jaguar repair shop that sold it to me had nothing to do with the problem, in fact this vehicle has been driven daily by the owner for the last two years with excellent care and no major problems. He went out of his way to point out tiny flaws I would never have noticed.Everything on this car when purchased worked properly. The thing is... it really becomesa matter of economics. If a vehicle requires more repair than it is worth, do you really have any cause to keep on pouring hard earned moneyinto it. I think this is why you see so many neglected Jaguars for sale. $500.00 plus labor on a $4500.00 car is something you need to take a hard look at no mater how much you love the car.Is it going to continue to eat up money on minor problems, or is it going to run trouble free? You just can't know. I spent less than $500.00on all three of my other cars last year, so it will prove difficult to justify keeping the cat if it continues to cost this kind of money. My wife, grudgingly let me indulge myself with this car we didn't need, and is already begining to hate it. We all know where that will lead. :D

The shop called me last night, they swapped the sensor they suspected with a used one they knew was working. Guess what? The problem doesn't go away. Now we're looking into wiring as a plug may have become wet. I didn't know you're not supposed to wash the engine bay of a Jaguar no matter how carefully. It just looked grungy and I've done lots of engine details on other makes. Seems cats don't like water...go figure.

JAJA...Actually, my cat doesn't mind the water. I've washed her several times, and on time I got water in the spark-plug wells, and I had to remove them to air the water out. Other than that, everything runs fine. Try not to wet the alternator though! Also, try and not wet the coils. I messed that up the last time!

I would never try to detail an engine myself but I wonder how they did my XK? No way that engine stayed so clean over the last tenyears, so they had to do something to it. I did notice it just doesn't like water in general. It acted up a little after I last washed it. It reminded me of an old Ford pickup a Buddy of mine had that would start to stutter and stallanytime it rained.

By the way, doesn't James Bond drive an Aston Martin?

I've detailed lots of engines over the years as a professional detailer, never encountered this kind of problem. Of course I don't recall any Jags. I'm always very careful of getting things wet, and admit I had some reservations of wetting the Jag as it's after all british, but usually the only concerns were a little rough running if the connections were poor or worn which normally clears after lettingit run a few minutes. The Jag now is a completely different story (or breed of cat if you prefer) who'da thunk brakes? Geez fussy is an understatement.Anywhoo hate to think what this isgoing to cost...[:@]

Yes... James Bond has driven an Aston Martin... And lotus, jaguar, etc. I simply can't afford a Vantage...Yet.;)

So after a few days of rest at the Jaguar shop, it turns out the whole anti lock issue comes down to a little moisture in a connector giving a false reading. Well better safe than sorry eh wot? I gotta tell you I'm paranoid about things like warning lights and really am convinced they are there for purpose, I mean they were on the jets I flew in the military, (and you know there's a very real problem when one of those babys light up) anyhow, the cat's fine and only got charged for an hour's labour for all the diagnostic and test drives. Should've heard my wife when I told her the bill was around $1500.00 you wouldn't beleive how quiet quiet can be on the phone! :DI let her fume for a few minutes then told her the actual amount....I'm so funny!!

Anyway,it's good to hear it was a small culprit .

All that bitching and moaning for nothing?

I've already learned that those warning messages are a joke. When I went to put the top down a few days ago to afix my new boot, a light comes on "Top latch failure". Sure enough, the roof latch was in the up position, so I pressed the down top button again and away she went. Problem solved, except now I have to keep looking at the "Top latch failure" message until I decide to put the top up again so I can convince the bitch it still works!
