harvbarb, it is a 5 minute job. LIke was mentioned, open up the hood, lift up on the plastic piece that the wipers go through, slide your hand in, grab the old filter and pull it out. Take your new filter, orientate it like the old one came out, slide it back in and push it all the way till it is seated fully.

The hard part of doing it this way is your forearm may get a little scratched up. But, if you take 20 minutes, you can remove the wiper arms and remove the plastic piece completely. Not a touch job. You will need a 13mm (?, possibly 14mm) to move the nut on each wiper arm and then using a large flat bladed screw driver (or similar device), push straight up along the shaft to get the wiper arm off of the shaft. This is the hardest part. Might want to even try giving the arm a rocking up and down to get things loosened up a little bit.

if you are going to remove the wipers - don't forget to mark where they are aligned on the windscreen so that you can put them back into position easily.

I have been getting the problem with water on the passenger side floor. Is this a common thing that happens over time? Should I just try to reseat the filter????

Striker, if you have water in the footwell, then I would replace the filter that is there. hard to say what all has happened to that filter. Besides, they are not that expensive and they can be picked up at the local auto parts store.

Another problem that can lead to water in the footwell is a clogged drain line. So, if you do get in and look at the filter and it appears seated properly, since you are in that far, spray a bit of Lysol into the ventilation intake and see if that helps out you water problem any. The Lysol should cause the blockage in the A/C drip tray to loosen and hopefully allow it to clear out. Just don't drive shortly after doing this. Get the car running without the filter in place, spray the Lysol where the filter should be with the A/C on, let it run this way with the windows down until the smell of Lysol has diminished.

I had to fix my recirc door a week or so ago.. and had the blower motor out, and the cabin filter out to make the repair easier.
I can assure you that there is no way that anything you spray in the filter area will get to the evaporator, or the drain. The blower is directly below the cabin filter, and to get to the main airbox in the centre of the dash, is uphill for liquid...

Default Easier way to do it

1. Open the hood

2. Lift the wipers up UNDER THE HOOD (Yup, there's room)

3. Lift the plastic panel, remove the filter, replace the filter replace the panel (you can use some glass cleaner as a lubricant to get the plastic panel to re-seat in the grove)

4. Lower the wipers

5. Lower the hood

6. Go have a cold beer.

Total time required, 3 minutes if the beer is close

I did this today using Wild Bills method it went pretty quick. Mine was not seated all that well more or less flopping around in the area so hopefully this solves my problem of the leak...
