I need to buy a spare key (I only have one). I can get a new one on ebay for about $100, but then the dealer charges $65 to cut the key, and another $122 to program it. That's about $300 all in for a key. Anyone have any other ideas that may be less costly? Thanks

 

You are pretty much in jail there. No other options.

 

That is the route I took, just be sure the key blank is the right one. The one I bought was billed as correct for the '04 XJ but as it turned out, it couldn't be cut correctly. I am lucky that I use a dealer where one of the Jag Techs on here works. Brutal took care of my problem with a new key blank. Can't say enough nice things about the service I have had there.
