Default 04 XJR new Rims opinions/critisizim

Hello my fellow XJ'ers

I was in the market for getting rid of my after market rims. But ended up getting 20's off ebay... I'm not sure if there is such a thread, but what do you guys think. I'm personally happy, but that's just me. I was wondering what others with XJ's thought. Your remarks are appreciated.

The wheels look great ....i think i saw the same wheels on e-bay but i was hesitant to buy because i wasn't sure if they we're o.e.m. or not.

SIDE NOTE: I do not like the plastic not functioning air vents on the sides.

hahaha cincinnati, I was thinking about mentioning it. I completely agree with you. The car came with the vents. That's the next thing to go, when the weather gets warmer... I know it should have been the first.

But about the wheels. I'm not sure if they are OEM, but the quality on them is top. I really wanted the Sepang's but they were too much $$. Thanks for the feedback

Very nice. You know that car came standard with a very similar 19' wheel called by many the double 5 spoke. Jag named it the "Performance". Your selection is a good one for the car.

Not at all cincinnati, the rims cost me 950 shipped with caps, lugs, and all. Tires were 800 with mounting, installation, checking balance, and tip. Making it around 1750

And you're right tarhealcracker they do look alike. I have a spare Double 5 spoke rim in my trunk, that the car most likely came with.

Pretty reasonable price all things considered. Get some security lugs ASAP.

I always knew the 20" sentas would look fantastic on the XJ8s/Rs, and there's an ebay seller that is replicating those sentas, most likely is what you got. I love them.

Very nice. The car still remains classy with those wheels.

They look good to me and like something that would have been an option.
As nice as Sepang's are, they are a pain when it comes to cleaning the brake calipers.
That was the reason I fitted Calisto's to mine.
As for the side vents. Yep, get rid.

The wheels look great; sporty and not overwhelming.

If you intend to remove the non-functional fender vents; do you know how they are attached and how to actually remove them? I have an '08 XJ8 VDP with factory plastic chrome vents and will consider removing them. E-mail me at lxacev75@ysoo.com thanks.

The vents that are on mine, look like they are off ebay. The mesh is just a sticker and it looks like double sided tape is holding it to the car, but its on there really good... On your 2008 VDP, if you are talking about the long vertical vents that come stock, those are really nice. I wish my 04 had them. I wouldn't know how to remove them.

warmup the 'vent' with a hair dryer and use some dental floss to cut right thru that double sided tape, goo-be gone for the remainder, and a little paint cleaning/polishing, done lickitysplit.

The larger wheels do look great. I was too worried about the ride of the thinner tires and went down to 18's from 19's.

With 19's

With 18's

How does the ride/noise of the 20's compare to the 19's?

Ditto on losing the vent-a-likes.

The ride is really nice. I was too used to the old 19's. They were aftermarket and vibrated terribly. They made me think something was wrong with my suspension at one point. Anything was better than my old rims. As for the 20's first thing I noticed was those vibrations where gone. The car drove like it was on rails (hard to explain) . Very smooth, but i think that the 285 tires have something to do with that. I avoid pot holes, but if i hit one, it gives off a painful thud sound, much louder than the 19's.

As for the noise. The Hankook tires i have are really quite. My traction control keeps turning on, off normal starts, not even half way throttle. I'm guessing it's the cold weather/salt or maybe the stickers on the tires that the shop forgot to take off.

It takes almost half throttle to get a traction control light. Those tires must stick pretty well. I have stock 19 on mine with Michelin All Seasons. About 5 weeks ago I took the traction control off with my neighbor in the car and tapped the throttle about 1/3 of the way.......she left about a 15 foot strip entering my neighborhood. I love these cars
