big box in the front right corner of engine (says jaguar V6 on it). held closed by snaps. Take out the 2 or 3 phillips screws that hold down the plastic engine cover, remove the oil fill cap and cover comes right off. filter drops right in once box is open. nice jag, love the color

Go with K&N, its more expensive but is well worth the $, since you dont have to replace it, just clean it, & recharge it every 50,000 miles...

Agree, I have K&N filters on my GTA-TA and the Santa Fe. Just ordered one for the X today for about US$40+ from Advance Auto Parts. The cleaning/recharge kit cost about US$11 last I checked.

Advance Auto got me both the air filter and the cabin filter. The prices were about half what the dealer wanted.

Bruce,

You don't happen to remember the Brand / P# on that Ford air filter, do you?

To be honest I had no idea that ford was related to jag, not until I opened the fuse box and right there I see a ford symbol, just a few weeks after I bought it...Heartbreakin, but since I already fell in love I couldnt take her back, we have a secret courtship...

I was just making a silly joke. I owned a Ford and it was an extremely reliable car, of course the engine was Mazda, and the body was Kia, but it did have a Ford emblem. Regardless, Ford does make decent cars, and very reliable trucks. And I believe the Ford Duratech engine in the X is a good engine and comparable with many others of its size and class.

+1 Ozzy.........Fords Duratec engine is solid. I owned Ford Mondeos for bout 10 years. Had 4 of them and put around 160k miles on every one over a 3 year period..........no problems

I agree the duratec is great(have a 3.0 cougar) the only problem with ford is they didnt design the engine so they did a terrible job intergrating it into their cars, so they screwed up time and time again. Everything outside of the engines is crap. Tranny is a perfect example. and also the duratec is waaaay underpowered for the size it is. In the 90's it was ok to get 190 out of a V6 now thats just rediculous, many 4cyl get that type of power now. As a matter of fact the SVT contour had 200 out of is 2.5 non VVT engine in 98. and 225 for a 3.0V6 24 Dohc with VVT is even more rediculous. most ford efforts outside of its trucks are halfed a**ed. Oh and the mustang, but then again thats still running on old technology. Gm is on a serious come-up......ford though they were doing bad before. They should had SVT do an R version of the x-type. oh but wait that'll never happen because they got rid of them. /rant
