I purchased a '97 Jag XJ6 about 6 months ago. I've had an ongoing problem with the idle....it goes up..it goes down...sometimes it stalls when u come to a stop. I took it to the Jag dealer and they checked the throttle body and other things and basically said "we dunno". Now the other day I started the car and it ran for a couple seconds and then stalled...and now it won't start. It cranks and cranks but won't even try to start. I have limited mechanical knowledge and couldn't even find the spark plugs so needless to say..i was pretty depressed and figured i'd have to have the car towed 40 miles to the nearest Jag dealer. But I just found this forum a short while ago and have already found that many others have had similar problems...and y'all have given excellenttips on what to do to try and rectify them....I even know where the spark plugs are now! I feel a lot more hopeful that i'll be able to get this car running again...I'm gonna start by trying to find the fuel cut off switch.....then i'll check for spark...etc. Thanks to all of you who are knowledgable and try to help us folks out..we really appreciate your help.

Maybe I didn't explain it well...the car does crank...and crank...and crank.....but it doesn't start...doesn't sputter or miss....just keeps turning over.

 

Hey Ken....u must have my post mixed up with another. I never said my fan only moves an inch. Myengine turns and turns but won't fire at all. So I figured..if i can find it...i'd first check the fuel cut off switch....then check fuel flow and spark....sound right? Thanks for your help!
