View Full Version : How much work is it to install H&R springs on a S type?

I've worked on my cars in the past, but I've actually never lowered a car. I'm thinking of swapping out the stock S type R springs for H&R springs. I have an impact wrench, a good floor jack and jackstands. Will I need a spring compressor to keep the stock springs from nearly exploding as I undo the suspension? Will I need it for the H&R's on the re-install?

thanks!

Yes you will need spring compressors for sure. You should be able to rent them at any good auto store. It took me and my friends about 10 hours which we split into two days. Also get a torque wrench to tighten all the bolts back to spec.

I did this on my x-type so I'm assuming its similar.

Got the fronts done. I just need to do the rears now...

Nice, rears are much easier on the x. Not sure about the s-type.
