Default electric aerial motor doesn't stop to work!

Hi,

in my 1992 XJ12 jag yesterday antenna motor started to make problems...

When I turned off radio, the electric antenna motor properly started but the antenna stayed up - the problem is that the motor didn't stop - just continued to work. I had to cut the big lift relay to stop it.

I have opened the antenna motor - inside there is another (smaller) relay that (it seems to me) regulates little connectors.

When I unclasp that little connector with my fingers, the motor stops...

So - any idea what should I do? In my opinion that little relay does not work - is that relay kind of general relay that is used also in other devices (and could be bought) or is special relay just for that particular motor?

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Cene

sounds like the toothed cable broke.

I agree with Jose -- fairly easy to fix. Your motor sounds fine, it's just not catching the antennae. you could buy a whole new mast that comes with a new toothed cable (probably around $15).

If it's a 92 XJ12 then it has the Series 3 style motor. No toothed cable to replace. Unfortunately, that's only sold as a complete unit.

Yeah,

I' ve tried today to open it and see if I can do anything - it seems almost impossible - you cannot open damn thing without destroy it...

Do you have any experience with replacement part - original part DAC4090 is quite expensive and there are cheaper replacements for third of a original price..?

This is an aftermarket version, but it looks good and does the job.
