Getting ready to buy some sweeet 18 or 19 inch riims. Is there a way, or do i have to at all, re-calibrate the speedo?? Will it automatically know the differance in speed?? Will it effect the transmission??

Anybody put bigger rims on their jag yet??

you wont have to recalibrate anything so long as the overall diameter is the same before and after changing the wheels. Also, if you go to a much larger tire diameter, youre low end acceleration will suffer.

Hmm, ok i think i got it.....the rim and tire combo are the ame size so i should be ok......

thanks!

Dude! the new rims are sweeeeet! Acutal size 18 inch and with the lowered suspension kit i put on last night, the cat looks like it's ready to pounch on some pray!

Gotta go and see what the top speed of the cat is now.....gonna guess it's 120 mph and the fuel cutoff kicks in....

Sorry for the long delay in responding....the rims are O.Z Galileo III 18x8 and the tire size is 225/40/18

No rubbing or hitting, even with the lowered suspension.....was lowered by 1.4 inches.....ride is stiff and excellent. Just the way I like it!

OZ Galileos are nice. I was thinking of getting those but wanted 19 by 8.5s. Should have it installed in the next couple weeks with KW coilovers. Anyone know if 8.5 rims with 235 tires AND lowered (1.4") will rub? I'm guessing the fenders need rolling.

Why you going through all that trouble for? You must be bored and have some money burning a hole in your pants. The key to it all is that you MUST, and i can't over stress it, you MUST get rim with the 48mm offset...
If you don't your ride will not be the same.....but hey, you sound like you have some money.......

12-22-2005, 09:31 PM
Bored? Yes maybe. But you must be too if you have new rims and suspension done to your car! Just curious, what brand suspension did you use?

Only the best, and i did it my self, except for the 4 wheel alignment afterwards.....Arden complete kit....spent like 2k on the parts...
here is their web sit:
http://www.arden.de/index.php?id=1893

Good stuff...

yes, i'm bored too! But do me a fav, get the right parts for your jag, don't hack it up into something that it isn't.....get the right parts and you'll be fine!

12-22-2005, 10:56 PM
Thanks for the advice. Don't worry I'm not turning the car into a clown. I have the option of changing wheel types if I deem these won't work out. I'm just as concerned with the ride as with looks.
Good choice with the ardens. But i have more experience with kw suspension so thats what i'm going with. But won't know how it will be with this car until its installed.

Kool, you doing it yourself? KV or w.....who are they? You have web link? just curious...

Definitely not doing it myself.

Website somewhat difficult to find product. Can't get a picture of the parts, but it looks like they cost the same. Seems they deal in more of a wide range of vehicles....cool stuff...wish they had more pics of the x type with their products so you can see what it looks like...

Love doing the work on my car....this way i know it's done right ;-)

I would have done it myself if I actually knew what to do. Anyways I'm having it installed on tuesday so hopefully i can post up some pictures of before and after. And by the way, only the front struts are height adjustable, cause apparently there is no room for the rear suspension for a traditional adjustable coilover kit. So the rears are NON adjustable and lowers 1.4 in. I would have just gone eibach pro-system if anyone actually had a set in stock...

Patrick

how is there no room for a coil over kit?? what is "in the way"?

12-23-2005, 08:08 PM
Thats what I wanna know myself. But even Bonspeed when they were putting bigger wheels ( I think they were 9.5 wide) on the X, they had to modify some parts back there to fit them. Should find out soon enough next week...

Well i didn't really think that the front would work either....but let us know. The only thing that lowers the car is the springs....if you use the coil overs for that, what happens to the main spring? Will it be too much for the coil overs to handle? Don't really get how it works...

The Arden kit comes with the coils and heavy duty shocks. the coils lowers the car abiut 1.4 inches abd the new shocks provide the proper compression for the road.......

anyway, let us know....

I get the feeling you've never had experience with coilovers. They are basically a shock and spring combo just like the ardens but with the ability to adjust either height, damping, compression, whatever. In the KWs variant 1, which is the model available for the X, only the height is adjustable and that is done by turning a wrench on the threaded shock body to adjust how low or high you want the car to be. Everything else, springs, damping, etc adapt to the new height you have set on them. Hope that helps.

By the way, MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE

're practically correct. I've heard of them, but never needed to use that type of shock.
So my question is:
If you're using coil over shocks what happens to the main spring or coil that's there now?
If you adjust the coil over, will they be fighting with the main coil spring?
Or do you remove the main coil and just use the coil over shock?
If so, won't the car bottom out? And will that smaller coil last longer then the bigger factory coil...??

Been a mechanic for a few years......just don't see the need for two coils, and that kit you're buying seems to be designed for all out racing, not street use....

Guess I’ll have to read up on it some.....

That's why I went with the Arden system, no guess work, and no problems since it was designed for the Jaguar, not 20 other vehicles....

I'll take a look at my jags front end again to see where the coil is now.....just to get an idea...

Merry Christmas to you too!

P.s. my wife got me a new Alpine subwoofer! Hope I have room in the trunk!

I looked on my Jag to see how the coil over will look and Just as i figured, the strut and coil are one, with the coil sitting on a lip of the strut.

Does this mean you will have to modify the strut?
The webpage for your kit doesn't show a good picture of the coilovers and it would be interesting to see how it would work.

I suppose maybe when you get it installed you can post some pictures??

thanks

Ok, i see now. the coil overs replace the entire strut assembly. Found a good picture of the one you intend to put on your car.
Looks good in a small package. my only concern will be if they can withstand everyday driving....since they will be replacing the bigger unit....

best of luck...

i just cant imagine why a coilover setup wouldnt work, because in most cases, coilovers are more compact than stock setups...

racerx82
12-27-2005, 07:52 PM
Well the front ones will work, my only concern is if it will last since its intent is for racing.....and usually race parts only last one or two seasons...just a coincidence that they had the front, since it is a common type of suspension.....

As for the rear, they probably do not have the right type/design. Plenty of room, just nobody makes any performance parts for the X-type, (other then Arden) but as they become more and more popular, I’m sure we will see all kinds of after market parts becoming available...

Stay tuned!

Ok i've had the coilovers installed. Car is sitting about 1.5 in lower all around. Sorry don't have pictures but it looks like any other car minus the wheel gap. Really happy with the handling so far, not hard at all. Definitely an improvement over the 40k old stock suspension.
racerx82: the reason why racing cars change parts so often is because they actually RACE the cars on the track. And the Arden suspension you have in your car are basically just rebadged Bilstein shocks. Very good shocks just like the KWs, and they make them for almost every car out there, just like the KWs.

Cool, i guess the bottom line is if you're happy than it's worth it....

As for the racing tip..thanks..would have never known that... :-) Aka racer-x
