Not funny. My son took my X-Type to college (2002 with 75,000 miles). It threw a rod through the engine/core. Total loss. Price to replace engine and transfer case $13,000. I always serviced at a Jaguar dealer, it never used any oil and my son had recently checked the oil.

what exactly was he doing when it broke? no warranty left?

Funny he blew it up.....sounds like he must have went through some water and get it into the intake. Or, used starting fluid for an extra boost.

Never heard of a normally aspirated engine throwing a piston without some sort of help.....

That's too bad either way.. Should have went to eBay and picked up a 4.L from an S type.....for 1,300 with 30K miles on it. Pay the dealer to install and you would have saved about 10K or just bought a new/used car.......and beat the crap out of your kid while you were at it.

Guess he had nothing more to say......man, i treaded some engines real bad and never had one blow up! In fact, we had this one 4 banger with 100k on the clock that was wrecked but the engine worked fine. Me and the boys got bored and drained all the oil out of it, started it up and threw a brick on the accelarator and ran off like a bunch of school girls dressed in pink.....as we waited for this huge explosion that never happened. In fact it ran all the way up till it ran out of gas.....!

We put another 5 gallons of fuel in it, and did the same thing.....she ran the whole time till the gas ran out again. We got bored after that.
