Default Newbie - XK8 Headlamp moisture

Hi guys, I am new to this site, so bear with me if it has been asked before.

I am getting alot of moisture in my 2001 headlamps.
I believe there is a mod to vent them?

Where do you actually drill a hole please?

Colin

Jag has a TSB 417-05 on this for cars 1997 to 2004. In short is is suggesting that you drill a hole in the light assembly if it do not have a hole and in either case install a vent. From what I understand do not take the light apart and attempt to clean the reflective area. I have been told that is not a good idea. As for a location send me a PM and I will send you what I can.

If you want the moisture out short term open the hood and on top of the hear light capsuls is a cover that has three prongs/clips holding that cap on. Just rush in on the prings and pull up. If you have FAT fingers it may be a little hard to do. I just left mine off this summer. No moisture. The moment I put them on, drivers side in my case it get moisture right back. I have not got any water in my light capsule with that cover over. Just make sure it is covered if you have hood open and cleaning anything.
Leaving this cover off going to be an issue for me?

Default Headlight moisture

As usual, Thanks Gus.

BTW, that T fitting has a curve in the bottom. Just where do you find these?

I have no idea! The first place I would go is Jag... Looks like the TSB has a part number.

Thanks brgjag for the tip on removing the moisture inside my headlamp lens, it worked like a charm. It took about 2 days for the moisture to evaporate. I will close the cover and report back to the forum if the moisture returns.
I like Gus's suggestion for a vent tube, however I am unable to read the thumbnails even when I enlarge. Any way you can resend but larger?

The permanent vent is the long term solution, however, popping off the clear cap after a long storm event can fix you pretty quick. I never installed the vent, and leave my clear lids only partially secured, and about once a year, a storm fogs the lamps. I just deal with it.

Smile Vents

Got digging around mine and lo and behold. The mod has been done. The little 'T's are a white rubbery material. The lights were drilled with about a 3/16th's bit and I'm betting that the hole is still too small since my right one fogs after a wash. I could also have a bug in it or something since there is one small dead spider on the bottom. I'll pull it in the spring when it's warmer and open up the hole.

My mod had been done also but they still steam up pretty bad on one side. Jag are now replacing the lights under warranty. You don't want to know the price of them

steve, still having problems with the pics? they're very small. A link to the TSB is also in our FAQ thread at the top of this subforum, just in case you want to try there.

Default Headlight fogs up when washed but then clears

On my 2006 xk8 the driver's side headlight fogs when I wash the car but it clears up quickly. Do I need to do the mod? (unable to view mod pics right now, not enough posts I think) Thanks for the help.

I drilled a 8mm hole where the Jag update tells you to and problem solved.

Update, repainted both my headlights black and replaced the lens cover on the driver side, the light with the new hole free lens cover does NOT get water condensation inside, but the lens with the hole DOES. (Nights get cold and moist here).

So, seems to me that a lens with a perfect seal will not lead to condensation buildup? I've tried to remove the cover for the problematic side and will see if that helps, maybe it just needs MORE air.

Default Condensation

Was looking at new headlight covers and new rubber.
Includes seals and chrome and glass cover at a cost of 250 per side.
I wonder if that would solve the condensation problem.
Jag vented my lights andd still getting condensation on a sunny day.
Jag tells me thet is common but I do not know.
Would it be wise to get the new seels and covers with the chrome piece of
just live with the condensation
