Default restricted performance

ok so I had the abs issue last week and I replaced the right side link harness. At the same time I had the resricted performance issue pop up and pulled codes for left and right side system lean. I cant believe that both the o2 sensors went dead at the same time that my link harness went bad. I took off the intake pipe to check for leaks at the accordion part and it looks good. I beleive an intake leak would be more likely than 2 o2 sensors failing at the same time. Any one out there have some insight on this? I have cleared the codes and the left one comes back fairly soon like the very next day.

Hey Brian,
My mechanic had recently done a pretty major job on my 2000 XKR, replacing all the hoses including the 2 tough ones under the intake. Afterwards, I was getting the 171 and 174 lean codes. We figured it was a vacuum leak somewhere, so he rechecked EVERYTHING............same codes. I had a new MAF Sensor waiting in the wings, so we put that in................... same codes. We had put in 2 new Upstream O2 Sensors just 6 months or so ago, so that should not be the issue. He is pretty damn sure that it is down to the Fuel Pressure Regulator being the culprit. The new one came in Friday and it is scheduled to be installed Tuesday. I'll let you know if that cure MY problem.

Thanks for the reply, yes please let me know your outcome. I have monitored my o2 sensors and they seem fine. It seems to be an intermittant problem. I have had my tester set up to capture data 5 seconds before code is tripped but after 2 days of driving with tester hooked up the concern has not occured.

Brian,

My restricted performance was caused by a bad knock sensor and I want through hell in trying to find it and I feel the pain. This is the link to my information http://www.gusglikas.com/AutoRepairR...erformance.htm Please let us know what you find.

Hi guys,
Sure, I'll report back as soon as the new Fuel Pressure Regulator is in. Those intermittent ones are a B****! I am getting my own OBDII Reader this week, so I will have the ability to read the pending codes, and not just to have to wait a few days for them to pile up enough to turn the light on. Every time that I had the message light(s) cleared, it would take about 2 days for them to reappear............but the "Pending" Codes would show up pretty quickly.

Brian,
No need to be frightened, it is part of owning a Jag! It seems that Restricted Performance can be a mystery and it can take you into many directions. What would make the hunt for the problem easier would be a note from the originator of the post as to what was found and how they found it.

I ran into the ABS/Traction control problem. Taking the unit apart and re-soddering it fixed the problem. Every so often during the first start of the day, the ABS/Trac might flash but not set a code and only flash the message once.

I also ran into the Restricted Performance and that went away when a new throttle body was installed.

The RP would show up in the message center then go away. After a while I would have to shut the engine off, wait a minute for the computer to reset then restart. The message cleared and no RP message for a while. The next step was the RP message and no power at all or just enough to idle around. You could floor it an nothing would happen. Shut the engine off and wait a couple of minutes but that didn't help. No power and RP message with the evil red light.

I think I have the answer to mine the aac valve came loose. Now if I can only find the hidden bolts! Can someone send me a pic from the manaul that shows the aac valve or where it bolts to the back of the manifold? i think I need a new gasket as well, the pic of that part would work also. Thanks

'AAC' is not registering in my little brain. JTIS also does not come up with it in a global search.

Did a Google search and find aux air control. Wonder why it does not come up in JTIS.

Here is a link to a discussion on another forum regarding an S type V8: http://www.2carpros.com/forum/2000-j...-vt441112.html

Scroll down a page or two.

That all right as it worked out, it's the egr valve gasket that is leaking. It looks like an idle speed controller from the top, but once I started working on it I found it attached at one end to the passenger side exaust manifold. Hence "EGR valve. I also found the other bolt hole and there was no bolt in it. What I would like to see is a picture of the EGR gasket if possible?

Thanks guys and sorry for the wild goose chase!

yeah they needed the vin number to order the egr gasket as well. Also the drivers side mirror glass. They must have gone through a lot of changes in these cars.

The Dealer had my VIN number, but still had problems figuring out the correct part. I guess that it can always be a bit dicey when ordering parts. I just hope that this correct Fuel Pressure Regulator will correct my "Lean" codes............

WoooHoooo, I just finished putting on a new egr gasket and cleaning my throttle body while at it. This car never idled so smooth. My short term fule trim is fluctuating on either side of "0" where it should be. Purrs like a kitty, and excellerates like cheeta. Now maybe I will have to make it roar like a lion like I am hearing on the exaust threads!
