ARE THEY KEYS IN A PURSE OR YOUR POCKET WHEN IT DOES? ALSO IF YOU GO TO THE DEALER THEY CAN PULL UP LAST ALARM ACTIVATIONS ON IDS AND THAT THE STARTING POINT TO SEE WHAT DOING IT. OTHER THAN THAT BAD REMOTES WILL DO IT IF THEY GOT WET AND OR JUST FAIL AND YOU GET CONNECTION ON THE BOARD FOR PANIC ALARM FUNCTION.

it does that even when i leave my key somewhereat home, so i don't think it's the remote.
maybe it is just a bad sensor. i assume that it's not a common problem.

i took it to the shop and they cleaned the wires in the hood and trunk that they thought it was causing a problem. but, alarm sounded once again even after that. so i'm just frustrated.

did you take it to a jag dealer or just a shop? We can see last alarm activations. and itll tell you if doors, trunk, etc at point you can check from there, but door switches in the latch assembly is a likely spot if the remote isnt around range of the car when it goes off.

Hey Brutal, my Audi is a convertible and it has something called an ultrasonic interior alarm which causes the alarm to sound if someone places their hand (without even touching anything) in the car anywhere below the sill of the window.. Sometimes it would cause the alarm to go off when my sunPass on my winsheild would fall off, or even if a leave fell off a tree and landed on the seat in the car.. Do our jaguars have similar interior alarms like this or is that just a german thing?? (I always wonder this when I leave my windows down and go into a store..)

My 03 X-type did the same thing last year when we first got it. The original battery had leaked and damaged the wiring harness connectors that are located under the battery tray. I cleaned the connectors witha baking soda and water mix and dried them with air. Then I sprayed them with clear coat and covered them with silicone sealer. I haven't had a false alarm since.

This is the most likely cause. Generally speaking the door swtches double as sensors. If for whatever reason it makes contact the alarm will go off. I had one (on another car) it used to go off often... usually for some reason between 2:00-2:30 am... I put some pvc insulating tape around the part that makes/breaks contact. The extra half mill thickness of tape cured the problem...and as it was unobtrusive became the permanent fix.
Ckeck all door sensors and hood (bonnet) and trunk (boot) sensors... could be any one of them.

Greetings,

Just a quick note to thank you for teaching me something by posting the resolution to your problem. Often times questions and symptoms are posted, and alot of good information appears in the ensuing discussion...but that's where it ends. This is a short thread with alot of great information, and it was really good of you to come back after a month to tie the loose ends together. Much appreciated.

Also had this recently and turned out to be the bonnet / hood switch.

This was removed and by passed and I've had no issues since.
