Default I refurbished my Rims using Plasti Dip...

My Rims were not horrible, but they weren't in great condition either; I was looking up places to refurbish them, & saw that they're now making Plasti Dip that can basically make them look brand new. I knew of ppl doing their cars, so I figured I'd go ahead & give this a shot myself. & for $120, I have NEW RIMS.

I wanted to try the more Silver/Brite aluminum look rather than the normal grey look, & I really like it!!!

I ordered the True Metallic Aluminum wheel kit, plus the Metal Flake (Brite Aluminum Metalizer) & 3 cans of Glossifier. Plasti Dip Pre-Spray, Dip release grease for tires & center caps & the Bags to cover the Brakes etc. All for a 'mere' $120 with shipping... Dipyourcar.com

Pics from & to!.. you may want to zoom in on the 1st pic, which will enable you to really see the bad spots on the rim, & that was actually my BEST one!..

Pics look very nice.
Is the plastidip coating clear, tinted, or opaque like paint?
Also really curious to know how the coating handles brake dust, does it attract or repel?

It's basically opaque (regular paint like)

It'll handle brake same as any rim pretty much. However, & this may be another thread after I get to use it, but there's this new product that they (Dipyourcar) sell called
, so I got some of that; it works on any style rim of course...

Also, fyi, you can use Meguiar's Brake Dust Barrier on them as well...

Nice! What type of preparation did you have to do on the rims? Any sanding, scuffing or was the kit self sustained from prep to final application?

Excellent idea.

I have a lot of curb rash, most of which I have already filed and sanded. I suppose that thorough cleaning and de-greasing would be advisable first. It looks like the tires were not taped like the hub and lug nuts were. Was the Plasti Dip easy to remove from the tires?

Interesting.. I've always though of Plasti-Dip for making wheels black or dark. Never thought of silver.

Looks great.

Just clean them up as good as possible, so u aren't spraying over the dirt &/or whatever else is on it; That's it... I cleaned it with alcohol, & done Pre-dip spray I got with the wheel kit...

Thanks Waynepaul! & I had "Dip release" grease along with tire dressing on the ties, so I just got a towel & wiped it rite off with no prob. Around the edge, it was thick enough that I could just peel it off. That's the key, make it thick as possible...

Looks great...and given the cost of wheel refinishing, yes you got a great deal. You also beat me to the punch, LOL. I just last week became a DYC authorized reseller and this was going to be one of my first personal projects, which I also need to do to become an authorized installer too. My Jags wheels in Silver like yours and changing the color of my Range Rover is the other.

I have kept track of this company for the almost 5 years they have been around and the product has progressed excellently and it was only 3 months ago I decided I would carry and apply with product with confidence and offer a warranty. The new clears are great but you must maintain the painted surfaces properly with regular cleaning (you own a Jag so I know you will).

I was going to do a little video of mine when I do them and post it here.

FYI, nice car... love the longer wheelbase versions.

Happy motoring!

Thanks John Fox. Yeah, I'm either about to change color, or go up to 20" Sentas...

Looks very nice!! Kinda wish I would have glossed my wheels. I dipped my wheels shortly after buying my car a year ago. The dealership had them dipped, but it was uneven, and peeling. I peeled and dipped them black, and they still look pretty good today(a few spots on the lip of the rim is peeling slightly). I chose black because the right rear wheel has a little damage, and it covers it up very well.

I have gunmetal dip for my other set of wheels... just haven't had the time to spray them and swap them on.

Very nice though, yours definitely look like a professional job!

FYI to anyone doing it; make your coats extremely thick, because a good pressure washer will take it rite off...
