Default Restricted Performance comes and goes

Hi All,

I got the dreaded RP light, but it comes and goes. I mostly see it when I have been on the freeway for more than 30 minutes. Once I stop and restart after a few minutes it clears.

The check engine light is on and I scanned codes:

P0171--System too lean Bank 1
P0174--System too lean Bank 2
P0105--Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit
P0400--Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow
P1113

Any help and/or a place to start would be much appreciated!

Sounds like an air leak.

You could try to test the vacuum tube that comes from the intake elbow, and goes (amongst others) to the MAP sensor.
If the map sensor isn't connected (so loose vacuum tube), P0150 code will be thrown. If the MAP is not working, it can't measure the working of the EGR, so P0400 code will be thrown. And a small air leak could set lean codes.

The P1113 seems unrelated; it is for the second air temp sensor (in the intercooler), maybe sensor failure or cabling issue, it is a out of range check where the voltage was lower than 0.12V.

I second the air/vacuum leak, if its coming and going RP indicator, its small, but enough to cause a fault. To give you an idea of how those air pipes last, mine had to be changed recently (and its 3 years newer than yours) at the accordian section, the majority of the plastic was gone in a few folds and it was paper thin.

I've heard of the rubber gasket at the TB be a cause as well. Clean and reinstall the clamp, make sure that isn't a variable.

I also got an intermittent RP last week, followed by the CEL, but I only logged a P0174 code. A cleaning of the MAF sensor took care of it though.

Have you checked your part load breather also?

Hi,

Sorry for the late response, but thank you all for the ideas. I cleaned the K&N filter, found a vacuum leak, and did the throttle cable adjustment that everyone is raving about on the now infamous thread (and, yes, it is easy and very effective).

This got rid of the Restricted Performance, but the Check Engine light reappeared. I haven't put the OBDII on it to pull the new codes, but I know that it is running better. Hopefully I won't have 5 new codes to work through. Thanks again!

Good luck. I hope that those codes are gone, as mine were a Bitch to get rid of! We never found a "Smoking Gun", just several very minor things that may have added up to the problem. It was very expensive to hunt down.....

remember, w/o clearing the code and CEL yourself, the car needs a couple good driving cycles to remove it itself. That cycle requires a proper coolant temperature and 10 minutes of idle. Found that nugget in the JTIS.

Unfortunately, I cleared the codes myself, so it isn't a matter of the Jag simply cleaning it up itself. I didn't clean the MAPS because I was hoping that the major vacuum leak was the whole of the problem. Oh well, onward!

Oh yeah, any advice on cleaning the MAPS? I've never done it before. Thanks in advance!

I forgot to mention that the only code now is the P0105...

there's a link in the FAQ page under engine IIRC.

You could try a hard reset also, but I would do the MAF sensor first, then reboot

I'm not familiar with the P0105. Could it have anything to do with the part load breather?
