Chance Encounter with One of the Rarest Jaguars Ever Created
A Jaguar Forums member unexpectedly crossed paths with the unicorn: a 1992 Jaguar XJ220.
What a shock it is when the subject of your wildest dreams is sitting right before your eyes. Recently, our Jagur Forums member Dag82 was shocked and thrilled to find himself in the presence of one such striking cars. The 1992 Jaguar XJ220.
The XJ220 was a supercar developed by Jaguar alongside Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR). It was bold, raw, powerful, wild, and incredibly sexy. From 1992 until 1994, the XJ220 broke speed records and lap times with ease. Initially conceived as a V12-powered rocket, the prototype made its debut at the 1988 British International Motor Show. And from there, it took up permanent residence in our dream garage.
It was a total knockout of a car. The epitome of Jaguar excellence. It also happens to be very rare. Production was limited, making the XJ220 an unusual find. But that initial XJ220 prototype? A unicorn.
In a recent thread aptly entitled “I’d never seen one of these Jaguars in the flesh,” Dag82 shares his encounter and photos.
Hello all. On an unfortunate note, yesterday afternoon we dropped off my friend’s Ferrari Scuderia (someone keyed the entire right side of the car). Anyhow while dropping it off at Ferrari San Antonio this was up on the lift…Holy cow I’d never seen one of these in the flesh–but may I say what an incredible sight!!!
The pictures just don’t do this one justice. Considering it’s age (1992) it was such a striking vehicle to see in person…and modern looking, even when I put up against some of the Ferraris in the bays.
I’ve dreamt about this vehicle ever since I was a little boy back during its production years! This was my bedroom poster car, most of my friends were sporting Lamborghinis/Ferraris posters in their bedroom back in those days. But not me, I was ahead of my time…mine was the Jaguar XJ220!
Anyway just thought I’d share some great pictures of an amazing vehicle that once was, enjoy guys.
We all appreciated seeing this remarkable sports car. But, we needed more! Enter user DannyJ, happy to help with a little XJ200 fix.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Collection Center in Gaydon, U.K., houses both a 1992 XJ220 as well as its 1992 prototype–with gullwing doors.
As DannyJ says, “Really impressive car. And that’s how it looks just before take off !”
What is your Jaguar “white whale?” Let us know and if you ever get a photo, we want to see it!
