New Defender Thrashes the Set in ‘007’ Promo
Caught on the set of No Time to Die, Defender outruns, outlasts pursuers, survives a flip at the end just because it can.
James Bond. A symbol of Britannia as world-renown as Big Ben, red double-decker buses, and, of course, Land Rover. The British off-roading company and Britain’s most famous spy have been in each other’s lives since 1983’s Octopussy. Then, a Range Rover convertible was one of the rigs Bond used to save the world.
For 2020’s No Time to Die, Land Rover returns with its new Defender in a send-off for the current Bond, Daniel Craig. The company recently dropped a promo for the Defender from the set of the film, and it’s total madness.
“Introducing the new Land Rover Defender,” the announcer says. “It has an iconic shape that never fails to make an impact.
And what an impact the Defender makes. Three of them fly across the countryside, pursued by motorcycles hoping to knock Bond and his crew off.
“Made for adventure,” the announcer said, “the Defender will compose whatever the day throws at you.”
Granted, it’s not every day you’ll be pursued by baddies, but the Defender will live up its name in your life. Its tough construction is ready for any terrain, even if it never leaves the high street. Or the ground, for that matter.
“And if you venture off the beaten track, it remains assured, no matter the circumstances,” said the announcer. “Designed with purpose, and tough enough to take on any unexpected surprises.”
And there’s nothing more unexpected than seeing a brand new Defender do a slow-mo barrel roll off a ramp. Yet, it not only landed on its feet, the Land Rover rolled away with just a crunched front fender. That’s not to say you should attempt this yourself — it was specially prepped for this stunt.
According to Motor1, the Defender in question is the Defender X, painted in Santorini Black. Each of the rigs was built with the production team to ensure safety for the stunt team while filming. They’re also the perfect marketing tool for Land Rover’s iconic SUV.
