Mad Max Jaguar Mark VII

This Jaguar Mark VII was used in Mad Max: Fury Road — and it’s perfect for the apocalypse enthusiast who has everything.

In stock form, the Jaguar Mark VII is a rolling illustration of stately elegance, and screams taste and sophistication. That’s in stock form, of course, because this heavily modified Mark VII from the apocalypse-porn rollercoaster ride that was Mad Max: Fury Road screams something else entirely. And if you got obsessed with this crazy old cat after watching the flick? Well, you’re in luck. Because this baby is hitting the block, along with a whole fleet of wild rigs from the flick.

What exactly you’d be buying, other than a guarantee that you’d have a killer ride to cruise around the Playa at Burning Man, is a bit of a mystery, however. While the listing over on the Lloyd’s Auctions site is loaded with bombastic copy — “high-speed kamikaze point guard, caltrop-spewing, napalm-spitting angel of death” — there’s absolutely nothing about what went into the construction of the “Jag Flamer.” Of course, how much Jaguar is actually left is a big question. Not that it really matters.

If I had to guess, I’d say there’s likely an LS engine under the hood, as they’re relatively cheap to score, and the packaging makes them easy to drop into just about anything. In fact, when you see a modern vehicle sliding around on screen — think some of the stunts in Baby Driver — there’s a good chance drivetrain has been plucked and replaced with guts from the General. Often times, today’s driver aids are so integrated with the greasy bits that getting them turned off is too much of a hassle. So production crews just don’t even try.

Now, the quality of movie cars can be all over the map, but I recall that a lot of work went into making the machines of Mad Max functional. And aside from that? Each of these cars is a complete work of art, and as striking as they were on screen, in person, the impact has to be an order of magnitude more intense. Unfortunately, there are no prices listed, so how much all these babies will fetch might never be known. But I’ll be curious to see if we can learn where they turn up — and keep my fingers crossed someone actually drives the Jag Flamer on the street!
