The Last ICE Jaguar: Make it an F-Type

Last ICE Jaguar

A British Racing Green Jaguar F-Type packing a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 would be a perfect swan song for petrol power.

In the last couple of weeks, some interesting bits of info have trickled out about Jaguar’s plans for the future. At this point, we know that next-gen Jags will feature Nvidia artificial intelligence, and that the electric platform they’ll ride on will be an in-house design. Aside from an over-the-air-update that’ll provide access to Amazon Alexa, there’s been exactly zero news about the current lineup — or how the end of the internal-combustion Jaguar will unfold.

Obviously, this will be a watershed moment for the brand. It’ll be a historic transition, and could very well prove the final chapter for a marque that’ll celebrate it’s 100th birthday this September. Because make no mistake: There is no guarantee that CEO Thierry Bollore’s strategy to make more money by selling fewer, more expensive cars will work. Jaguar could very well die in this process, or become a vanity project which exists solely to restore the greatest vehicles from its past.

As huge fan of Jaguar, I don’t want to think about the end of the line, and I’m genuinely excited to see the next litter of kitties. But I do think that the last internal combustion Jag should be an F-Type. Since Jaguar is only offering the latest version with a 5.0-liter supercharged V8, a British Racing Green example of the sexy coupe would be a perfect swan song for petrol power. Especially since that engine sounds as rowdy as a pub full of drunk football fans.

Of course, it’s entirely possible that the F-Type will be put out to pasture before the 2025 deadline, and this might prove an impossible wish. So I’m asking Jaguar Forums members: What do you think the final ICE Jaguar should be? Is this something which even needs to be celebrated? Or will it be overshadowed by the — as yet unseen — product the designers are surely toiling away on as we speak. Hit me up and let me know how you’d like to see the transition to electric unfold — and whether you think my fears about the Jaguar’s future are unfounded.
