Jaguar-Powered Combat Vehicle Could Be Yours
And now for something completely different: A Jaguar tank.
Today we’re talking about a classic powered by a Jaguar 4.2 liter inline six. No, it’s not an E-Type — it’s an Alvis Sabre CVR-T, or Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Tracked). It’s a tank, of sorts (technically an “armed fighting vehicle,” or AFV for short), and saw service during armed conflicts such as the Falklands War, Operation Desert Storm, and the Invasion of Iraq before being finally withdrawn from service in 2004.
It might not be the most obvious choice, but if you want a classic Jaguar, this is one way to go. We found this one on War History Online for sale in the UK for about $30,000 US. That’s certainly not E-Type money.
However, it’s not E-Type performance, either. While impressive for what it is, it tops out around 50 MPH. Still, it’s apparently legal to register and drive on the road. Parking might be an issue, but its intimidation factor is off the charts. That somewhat makes up for the fact that it certainly doesn’t have traditional Jaguar good looks, either.
Still, we bet it’s easier to play army with your buddies in this than in a Land Rover, although the current owner clearly has an affinity for both — the garage bears a “LAND ROVER PARKING ONLY” sign. Maybe that’s what necessitates the sale of this Sabre CVR. Seems like the owner might be one of us.

Still, we hope you enjoy this unique, oddball piece of Jaguar history. While we can’t say it’s something we’ve ever lusted after the way we dream of Mark IIs, E-Types, and XKs, we’d certainly love to see it at the next British car show for a little bit of variety.
