Barn Find Jaguar XK120 FHC Heads to Auction
Decades ago, the previous owner started restoring this rare machine. Will you be the one to finish it?
An exceedingly rare Jaguar XH120 fixed-head coupe is heading to auction in the UK. This isn’t a well-preserved original car or a painstakingly restored gem. Instead, it represents the quintessential barn find.
Every single one of us has fantasized about finding our dream car in a barn, tucked away from view for decades. Whenever one of these barn find vehicles pop up at a prominent auction, it leads to feelings of wistfulness and even jealousy.
Invariably, the car’s story becomes more interesting than the car itself. How did such a rare, desirable, expensive machine end up stashed in a shed?
According to Petrolicious, this car has spent most of its life under restoration. Since it was new, this Jaguar has had just two owners. It’s clear that the second owner had big plans for this car. Sadly, those plans never came to fruition.
It looks like the restorer got a decent start on the project. The car is mostly complete, but the next owner will have a long road ahead of them.
However, the car is said to be complete. Unlike some low-quality restorations, there are no sins hiding beneath a shiny exterior. What you see is what you get.
We hope to see this car restored to its former glory very soon. The Jaguar XK120 fixed head coupe is a rare machine, especially in right-hand drive configuration. Just 151 were built, with roughly one-third thought to remain.
Even in its current state, the XK120 coupe’s elegant lines are readily apparent. Despite its rarity in its home country, this Jaguar is just as classically British as cricket and The Beatles in our eyes. It seems that every Jaguar sports car is among the most beautiful cars of its era. This is no exception.
The auction for this rare Jaguar is hosted by British auction site The Market. While this Jaguar spent most of its life in Wales, it’s currently located in Abingdon. Abingdon should be a familiar locale to any fan of British sports cars. From 1929 until 1980, it was the home of MG.
