Calling all Caledonians: Desperately Seeking Scottish Motor Show Pictures
Owner of a restored Jaguar E-Type is on the hunt for photos from its 1961 debut at the Scottish Motor Show.
Were you at the 1961 Scottish Motor Show in Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall? If you were on the scene–or know someone who was–a classic Jaguar owner needs your help. That year, a very special E-Type coupe appeared at the show. Now, years later, the original owner has his car back and fully restored. But is looking for any photos from the event.
According to The Daily Record, the 1961 Pearl Grey fixed head Jaguar was the only one like it on display at the Rossleigh stand.
The Scottish Motor Show had its inaugural outing on November 10, 1961. Held at Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall, Jaguars such as the E-Type and Mark X held court. It also marked the first unveiling for the right-hand-drive fixed-head coupe E-Type which was a press car at the show.
Since its time at the auto show, this Jaguar went through some rough times. But Classic Motor Cars (CMC) rescued the once-mighty E-Type and it underwent a full nut-and-bolt restoration. After almost 3,000 hours of work, it was an incredible transformation.
It is truly an impeccable restoration. CMC even worked with paint and trim shops to get the original color combination: Pearl Grey exterior with light blue interior; the only Jaguar E-Type produced with this palette in 1961.
The car looks almost exactly as it did during it’s debut at Kelvin Hall. It even bears the original sticker on the heater from its display stand at the show.
After changing ownership a few times, the car is back with its original owner. Unfortunately, he does not have any pictures of the stunning E-Type at the Show.
“The car’s current owner would dearly like a photograph of the car at the 1961 Scottish Motor Show,” says the Daily Record. We would love to see this one-of-a-kind back at the start.
So we are putting the call out to the Jaguar community. If you were there, know someone who was there, or have always wanted to put your sleuthing skills to good use, this is your time to shine! You can contact us or The Daily Record with any information!
