'DC British Reliability Run' Set for Oct. 18-20

East Coast event features three-day tour of twisty backroads through Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. Plus, it benefits children’s charity.

Being fans of British cars, we’ve all heard our share of “Lucas: the Prince of Darkness” jokes. Like BMW owners and turn signal jokes and Mustang owners and crowd jokes, these tired old barbs will be lobbed at us until the end of time.

If you’re near Washington, D.C., your chance to prove those folks wrong (and do some good in the world at the same time) is coming up. The DC British Reliability Run is a three-day, 650-mile drive through some of the finest twisty roads in Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. The event runs from October 18 through 20, so mark your calendars now.

According to the event’s website, the drive is patterned after similar events traditionally held in the UK. Held on public roads, this event isn’t some sort of underground road race or a road rally with cryptic instructions and timed checkpoints.

Instead, it’s meant to be a relaxing fall drive, a chance to explore the countryside and see the beautiful fall colors in the company of other British cars. The event is self-paced, although, apparently, many like to travel in groups.

Although this event is a great excuse to use your Jaguar (or other classic British car) as intended, there’s more to the event than meets the eye. Since 2017, the DC British Reliability Run has raised an incredible $83,000 for Our Military Kids, a children’s charity.

Our Military Kids helps kids whose parents are deployed for months at a time – and it also helps kids whose parents are dealing with the physical and emotional scars wrought by combat. By helping these kids to participate in activities like baseball and gymnastics, Our Military Kids aims to boost the morale of their entire families.

Helping military kids lower their stress, raise their self-esteem, and reach their full potential sounds like a noble cause to us. If you can’t participate in the DC British Reliability Run, you can still help by sponsoring one of the teams that’s participating. All of the money goes towards Our Military Kids.
