Does the XJ Deserve the Underrated Status It Has?
Redditors discuss what makes the current Jaguar XJ so unique, and why even the pickiest Jag fans should love it for what it is.
Ten years ago, Jaguar brought us the X351 XJ, which is still in production today. With supercharged V6 and V8 options available, the XJ is well capable of making all the right noises any automotive fan will enjoy. The design hasn’t changed much over the years. Though, we would argue that there isn’t much that needs changing. Even from 2010, the XJ features top-notch interior and bodywork. While the rear design has sparked some controversy, we believe the XJ is a genuinely loveable vehicle.
We aren’t the only ones, either. A recent Reddit post brought a call to action to appreciate the XJ. While it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, there is plenty of love out there for Jaguar’s big body luxury sedan.
“I honestly think this is one of the best looking cars currently on sale, and nobody seems to care. It came out almost 10 years ago, and looks like it could have been unveiled at a motor show yesterday,” said Reddit user heipaadegdingamlesei, the thread’s original poster.
Without serious attention to detail, it’s not immediately obvious how old one of these cars is. Some would argue that the look is now outdated. However, with minor modern updates over the years, the chassis has managed to stay relevant without drastically altering its look.
“It catches my attention, too whenever I see one. I think it looks really good, especially compared to rivals like 7 series or S-class, its got unique styling,” said user tomsdimsum
Another advantage of the styling is that you can buy a used model with a similar feel to the newest model for a fraction of the price. Some even liken the interior to that of a Rolls Royce or Bentley.

Overall, we understand the XJ isn’t to everyone’s taste. However, we don’t think it deserves the ridicule it receives. The big bad Jag is the pinnacle of luxury for the brand. Old or new, we think they are very cool. Recently, Jaguar announced they will discontinue the XJ. Perahaps then, it’ll become a symbol of the age-old adage. You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone.
