Jaguar E-Type from The Avengers

RHD 1965 fixed-head 4.2-liter E-type coupe is one of only 1,583 examples and could fetch over $100,000 at auction in October.

Enzo Ferrari once described the E-type as “the most beautiful car ever made.” With its iconic body lines and screaming six-cylinder engine, the E-type is an instantly recognizable classic. They are only going up in value, and finding clean examples for sale is only getting harder.

This beautiful 1965 example is up for auction by H&H Classics at Duxford Imperial War Museum in England. It crosses the block on October 16. The car was originally black but has since been repainted red. It appeared on the classic British television series The Avengers. It belonged to Brian Clemens, the producer of The Avengers and several other British series. The car can be seen sporting his personal number plate on the show, reading “140 MPH.”

Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Engine

This is a fixed-head coupe, which means it’s not convertible for those who aren’t familiar with Jagspeak. Only 1,583 RHD examples sold in the E-type Series 1 run, so this car is already rare without its silver screen history. H&H estimates it will sell for between $81,000 and $105,000.

The car traded owners a few times until 1997, where it sat for twenty years. It saw an extensive restoration in the nineties before its temporary hiatus from the roads. XK Engineering LTD is a renowned Jaguar specialist and currently owns the car. A substantial amount of work graces its recent work history. The straight-six engine is now effectively brand new. A reground crankshaft, new liners, pistons, and bearings bring the engine block back to its glory days. Additionally, the cylinder head is newly refurbished. This car has many years of smooth running ahead of it, so long as its new owner maintains it properly.

Vintage Jaguar Interior

Overall, this E-type is about as flawless as one can get. Its meticulous restoration history perfectly compliments the wrap sheet associated with the chassis. Not only is it a limited production-spec, but its British television history is nearly as iconic as its British motoring history. Another E-type of this significance is not likely to appear for sale in the near future.
