Everything You Need to Know About the New 2021 Jaguar F-Type
The redesigned 2021 Jaguar F-Type R will match the previous-gen SVR model with 575hp and 516 lb-ft of torque!
Jaguar‘s iconic F-Type sports car will soon be reborn for the 2021 model year. The British automotive company recently teamed with Hot Wheels (see above) to make the news public. The new F-Type boasts a new front and rear-end design, a staggering number of exterior color options, a revised instrument cluster with a few tech upgrades, and more power and performance on tap. Here’s our breakdown of the key new features.
Three Engine Options with Unique Exhaust Tips
Jaguar plans to release three variations of the 2021 Jaguar F-Type here in North America. The manual transmission is going, leaving only eight-speed Quickshift transmissions, with full manual control and paddle shifters. Each model features an exclusive tailpipe configuration exiting the rear diffuser as well as a standard active exhaust.
The entry-level rear-wheel-drive F-Type will boast a 296hp 2.0-liter turbocharged Ingenium engine. It produces 295 lb-ft of torque at an accessibly 1,500rpm, giving the F-Type a peppy 5.4 0-60mph time. The max speed is 155mph. The turbo four-banger features a “single, central, quadrilateral finisher” exhaust.
Step up to the Jaguar F-TYPE R-Dynamic, and you’re rewarded with 380hp and 339 lb-ft of torque from a supercharged 3.0-liter V6. The all-wheel-drive R-Dynamic boasts a standard limited-slip differential with torque vectoring as well as a dual tailpipe setup.
The F-Type R offers a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 under its hood. Up 25hp and 14 lb-ft of torque over the previous generation, it now boasts 575hp and 516 lb-ft, matching the previous SVR model. Capable of sprinting to 60mph in 3.5 seconds, Jaguar electronically limits the all-wheel-drive R to 186mph. The exhaust system includes quad tips etched in R branding, and can be set to Quiet Mode to ensure peaceful neighborhood relations.
Alas, unlike the European release, Jaguar USA won’t offer the 450hp V8 variant here in North America.
28 Color Choices
In addition to 12 “core” color options, Jaguar will offer the 2021 F-Type R in 16 shades from the SVO Premium Palette. These include, “Ligurian Black, Ethereal Silver, Ionian Silver, Sunset Gold, Petrolix Blue, Velocity Blue, Tourmaline Brown, Desire, Sanguinello Orange, Atacama Orange, Sorrento Yellow, Constellation, Icy White, Flux Grey, Malachite Green, and Amethyst.” Each Premium Pallete color is available in either gloss or satin, which we’ve seen on the new Defender. (Satin is quite impressive.)
Exterior Refreshed
Jaguar brought a scalpel to the 2021 F-Type redesign, revising both the front and rear bumpers. Up front, a larger grille and slimmer LEDS — now standard on all trim levels — gives the new F-Type a more modern, aggressive appearance. A new clamshell hood design also features larger vents. Around, back, the rear bumper is busier, with a unique rear splitter for each trim level. The quad-tipped F-Type R exudes a touch of an Italian GT car in all the right ways.
Interior Upgrades
The 2021 Jaguar F-Type biggest interior shift is its new digital instrument cluster. The 12.3-inch HD TFT instrument cluster replaces the analog gauges, is customizable, and allows drivers to more clearly see information that was once exclusive to the infotainment system. The Jaguar InControl Touch Pro infotainment system remains, of course, but now includes standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Lastly, there will be two Meridian sound systems from which to choose.
2021 Jaguar F-Type First Edition
If you’d like to scoop up a limited edition 2021 F-Type, Jaguar will have the First Edition for you. It will feature the R-Dynamic’s 380hp supercharged V6, a Dark Satin Grey “exterior design pack”, and special 20-inch wheels. Exterior color options include Santorini Black, Eiger Grey, or Fuji White paint.
Inside F-Type First Editions, you’ll find 12-way Windsor Leather seats in either Ebony or Mars, a suede-wrapped instrument cluster, aluminum gearshift paddles, a suede headliner, and “an exclusive aluminum center console finisher with First Edition branding.
2021 Jaguar F-Type R Enhancements
Along with its power and torque increases, the new Jaguar F-TYPE R features redesigned and recalibrated suspension components. Coupled with new springs, anti-roll bars, larger wheel bearings, and revised upper ball joints, Jaguar claims the new F-Type will be more comfortable at slow speeds and more controllable at higher velocities with less understeer. Jaguar also plans to mount the specially-developed 265/35/ZR20 and 305/30/ZR20 Pirelli P Zero tires to 20-inch gloss black wheels.
Hot Wheels
In addition to being able to purchase a real 2021 Jaguar F-Type, enthusiasts will also be able to buy the official Hot Wheels Jaguar F-TYPE 1:64-scale diecast model in November 2020.
