F-TYPE Project 7 on eBay

Only 50 examples of the Jaguar F-Type Project 7 made it to the States — and one just popped up on eBay.

With only 250 examples produced, the Jaguar F-Type Project 7 is as rare as it is stunning. Designed as a modern homage to the D-Type racers which conquered Le Mans, this topless machine makes the sprint to 60 in just 3.1 seconds, and if you keep your foot in the carpet, it’ll hit 186 mph. Of course, the supercharged 575-horsepower 5.0-liter V-8 will sound like the business the whole time. When the concept was revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed back in 2014, it blew our minds, and we were beyond stoked to learn that forum member zach05855 actually managed to score one.

At the time, the price of admission for the Project 7 was $165,000, which considering how trick this kitty looks, along with the limited number, didn’t sound unreasonable. Since then, prices seem to have stayed fairly stable. The few we’ve seen for sale have been listed for between $175,000 to $210,000, so there hasn’t been a spike since customers began taking delivery four years ago. So we’re curious to see what this example which just popped up on eBay fetches, even if we’re a little surprised to see it on such a mainstream auction site.

We actually snagged these photos from Jaguar’s official Project 7 page, because the dealer selling this example on eBay doesn’t appear to have taken any original shots, which seems a little odd. Because this is a special car, and just one of 50 that actually made it to our shores, so you might expect to see a little more effort put into the listing. Honestly, we’ve seen Craigslist postings for ten-year-old Toyota Camry’s that look like they took more time to put together.

Another odd thing we noticed while researching this post? The Jag’s official page describes the Project 7 as “the fastest Jaguar ever,” which isn’t accurate, given that the XJ220 was good for 212 mph.  What’s up with that?

And as long as we’re going to nitpick about listings for cars we could never conceivably afford, we might as well note that resolution of the pictures is jacked too. Honestly, that lack of attention to detail would get you torn apart over on Bring a Trailer — which is where we’d actually expect to see a car of this caliber. It wouldn’t be out of place in the DuPont Registry or Sotheby’s either. But maybe the seller didn’t feel like paying any more premiums than they needed to, which is fair.

With the quilted leather, white piping, and contrasting stitching, the cockpit is obviously a nice place to be. In fact, all the creature comforts you could expect to find in a standard F-Type seem to be accounted for. Given the race-inspired nature of these cars, we wouldn’t have been surprised if Coventry had gone in a far more minimalist manner for the cockpit. After all, Porsche proved long ago that customers will actually pay for less features, if it means less weight and more exclusivity.

So how much do you think this F-Type Project 7 will go for? Do you think it’ll break the 200k mark? Or will it be something closer to watch it commanded when it was new? Head into the forums and let us know. And if you happen to place the winning bid, make sure to start a thread here — we’d love to have you!
