Jaguar Hearse

Does the custom coachwork, low miles, and a dead gorgeous interior of this Jaguar hearse make you morbidly curious?

As someone who reads Jaguar Forums, it’ should come as no surprise that I spend way, way too much time looking at Jaguars for sale online. But until today, I’d never seen a Jaguar hearse for sale. And while I guess — I theoretically — knew they existed, the only Jaguar hearse that I’d ever really thought about was the butchered E-Type from Harold and Maude, the cult classic about a teen with a death-fetish and his octogenarian girlfriend.

Spoiler alert: the Jag dies at the end. That said, as someone who loves wagons but never really got the appeal of driving a hearse, I was morbidly — sorry — curious about the 1997 Daimler Hearse Eagle Wilcox I stumbled across on Classic Cars and Campers. Because along with a name that’s one great fresh hell of a word salad, it’s also a pretty wild-looking ride.

Seriously, look at the size of that side window! It has to be one of the biggest pieces of glass I’ve seen on a vehicle that isn’t an RV. There’s also the “passenger” area, which is replete with the same kind of gorgeous wood trim featured on the dash. Maybe it’s just me? But this seems like something of a poor material choice, given that it’s going to have coffins being dragged across that glossy surface.

Perhaps there’s enough wax on there they just glide in, but my OCD nature would mean I’d be constantly rubbing Old English wood polish on there, just to be safe. To be clear, I tagged this in Cars for Sale, but since the ad hasn’t been updated for over 1,000 days, I’m going to speculate it’s no longer on the market.

With just 43,000 miles on the clock, it appears to be in great shape, however, and the blue leather of the interior is dead gorgeous. For just over $8,000 American, it also seems to be something of a steal for the right buyer, as good XJs of this era are starting to finally climb in value. But what do you think? Is this hearse worth the cost of admission? Hit me up and let me know!
