'Jaguar Forums' Checks Out 2021 F-Type Convertible North American Debut

Stunning white on red drop-top 2021 F-Type convertible debuts at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show and looks even better in the flesh.

Standing in front of a covered car at the Chicago Auto Show, Jaguar representatives admit the current automotive landscape leans towards SUVs and crossovers. But they also said Jaguar was adamant that F-Type is here to stay. “At our core, we are a sports car brand,” and that means keeping the F-Type sports car in their lineup. When the covers were lifted, a white-on-red Jaguar F-Type convertible was shown to North America for the first time.

As we know, the U.S. will get the P300 turbocharged 2.0 4-cylinder, the P380 supercharged V6, and the R supercharged V8. Jaguar picked an R-Dynamic P300 “First Edition” for the unveiling. As a one-year offering, it takes the driveline of the P300 but adds the niceties of the P380. The P380, meanwhile, sits smack in the middle of the range in terms of price, and we feel might be the volume seller for Jaguar. The P300 will still sell well as a “conquest purchase” for buyers new to Jaguar. Although technically speaking, that could be splitting hairs, as the F-Pace is the current big volume seller for the British brand according to Jaguar themselves.

2021 F-Type convertible

We’ve already seen, and definitely heard, the new F-Type, but seeing it in person gives us an entirely new impression. Obviously the most striking changes are on the front end. In a way, it looks almost German having gone with the trend of wide and deep grilles. Flanked now by narrow LED lighting, the fond end looks lower and much wider.

This First Edition P300 is finished in Fuji White, but also is available in Eiger Grey, or Santorini Black. Thumb through the pictures and you’ll see the First Edition’s Exterior Design Pack with dark satin grey accents.

Jaguar also announced pricing at the show. Two different versions of the P300 will be available. P300 Coupe prices start at $61,600, with the convertible commanding $3,100 more. A “First Edition” P300 will be available with both coupe and convertible configurations as well, with prices at $73,100 and $75,400 respectively. Step up to the R-Dynamic P380 supercharged V6 and you’ll be paying $81,800 and $84,900. The range tops out (for now) with the F-Type R at $103,200 and $105,900.
