Jaguar F-PACE SVR Edition 1988

The F-PACE SVR Edition 1988 pays tribute to the Jaguar racer that won the 1988 24 Hours of Le Mans.

With Jaguar poised to make the switch to fully electric vehicles, the F-PACE is on its way out the door. But before it rides off into the sunset, Coventry’s SV Bespoke department decided to give it their special treatment — and the results are stunning. The inspiration for the F-PACE SVR Edition 1988 was the XJR-9 LM, which wore a gorgeous purple, white, and gold livery on its way to victory at the 1988 24 Hours of Le Mans. And for those keeping score at home? That vehicle was mechanically quite similar to the XJR-9 which just sold for over $2M, though I think the Le Mans car looks way cooler.

In a nod to that killer livery, every example of the F-PACE SVR Edition 1988 will be finished in Midnight Amethyst paint, and roll on Champagne Gold forged alloy wheels. According to the press release, there will also be Sunset Gold accents in the interior, though from the press images — some of which are kind of trippy — it’s unclear just how different the two gold hues are. What is clear is that production of this special F-PACE will be extremely limited, as only 394 examples will be produced. That seemingly random figure was chosen because that’s the number of laps the XJR-9 LM completed on its way to victory lane in France.

Under the hood, these special editions of the F-PACE will be packing a 5.0-liter V8 producing 550 horsepower, which is enough motivation to make the big cat sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds. Keep your foot in it, and weapons-grade people mover will top out a whopping 178 mph. As someone who was impressed with the 395-horsepower version of the F-PACE, I’m curious to know how all that extra poke translates to the driving experience. But you don’t have to be Nostradamus to predict it probably improves it significantly.

The F-PACE SVR Edition 1988 will be officially revealed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans later this month, and it will also make an appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. In the press release, there’s no breakdown about how many are slated to come to our side of the Pond, but if you want to put one in your garage, the cost of entry will start at $110,000. Personally, I’m curious as to why Jaguar is honoring a race car with an SUV, as the sporty F-TYPE would seem a more appropriate vessel. So if you have an idea? Let me know!
