Jaguar’s Series-1 E-Type Still Impresses With Looks And Performance

By -

Despite the 2+2 configuration, this Series-1 Jaguar still proves that it has enough grunt to match modern performance cars.

Adam Canfield is a classic car enthusiast. As a native Brit, he has an MG in his garage. In this video, however, he samples a unique Jaguar E-type. “Today I’m down at Beauliau Garage who not only sell and restore classic cars, they also hire them,” Canfield says. His car of choice? None other than a 1966 Jaguar E-type Series-1. It takes car sharing to a whole new level, and we have to give credit to the owners of these cars for letting strangers, in essence, drive their pride and joy.

The E-type available arrived in a 2+2, but that was no bother. It simply gave more things to talk about compared to the open-top version. Canfield does a walk-around of the car and notes the car’s dimensions. He says, “as well as the extra two inches of height, it also has an extended wheel base by 9 inches.” In showing us the inside and engine bay, we see this car is in exceptionally good condition for driving.

And of course, driving it is what matters. “It sounds amazing when you go above 3500 RPMs, it just sounds incredible… The engine just sings! It comes to life through all the gears!” This keeps Canfield quite impressed. Of course, it has Jaguar’s 4.2 liter straight-6 which pumps out a very respectable 265 horsepower and 280 lb/ft of torque. Impressive numbers today. Even more impressive in a car that weighs just about 3,000 lbs.

Not only does it make the driver react, but it gets pedestrians to react as well. Canfield explains that you’ll get thumbs up and waves while in the car. He leaves the experience more in love with the E-type than he expected. “For me, I much prefer a good old fashioned classic car with all the excitement the sounds and the drama that comes with it.”

This kind of experience sits in stark contrast with more modern cars that have restrictions and all sorts of weight added to them. Yes, we appreciate the safety, and we appreciate clean air, but there’s nothing like a fully analog old classic.
