Jaguar Land Rover’s SVR performance brand has seen a big boost in sales, and will expand its services and fleet of vehicles.

In a time when sales have been tough across the whole of the automotive industry, Jaguar Land Rover has pulled off something of a marvel. The company’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division has seen a marked spike in SVR sales. After seeing the heat behind the SVR models, the automaker is banking on SVO. They will be expanding both the division itself as well as the lineup of SVR models.

Autocar reports that SVR vehicles–such as the Range Rover–saw a 64% increase in sales this year. That is a remarkable feat under normal circumstances; but is certainly all the amazing in the current economic climate.

So what exactly is behind the higher demand for SVR models? Performance and customization are major factors. SVR vehicles are variants produced by Jaguar Land Rover’s SVO team. They boast impressive horsepower and agility. Based in a new and cutting-edge technical center in Warwickshire, England, the SVO facility develops limited- and special-editions, as well as tune and build high-specification vehicles in various service centers.

SVO also does custom and bespoke work including interior and exterior elements. Sales in just this area rose by 20% this year.

In addition to the supercharged (and super-selling) Land Rover SVR and Range Rover Velar; these are the brains and brawn behind some some of Jaguar’s most inspired rides–such as the four-door Nurburgring-slaying ‎XE SV Project 8.

Sales were driven by a high demand for the F-Pace SVR, as well as the larger rides. Most of SVR’s current vehicles are SUVs and crossovers. But they have heard the public, and are responding by adding more cars and EVs.

Managing director Michael van der Sande says the company is planning to expand SVO’s services and offerings. Thankfully Jaguar will not be left behind, with van der Sande promising that “there will be future saloons and sports cars” offered in the SVR range. We’re guessing first on that list will be the upcoming XJ.

Van der Sande feels that the SVR’s popularity is attributed in part to an increase (and by extension, easier access) to abut 100 SVR centers worldwide. He also anticipates that number will likely double “over the next couple of years.”
