Since Nvidia already works with some of the biggest names in the business, the partnership is a smart one.

With Jaguar’s switch to all-electric vehicles less than three years away, we still still don’t have any info on what the company’s new lineup will look like. We do know that no current model — even the fully electric I-PACE — won’t survive the shift, and that all the new Jaguars will be built on an EV platform that’s being designed in-house. Now, we’ve learned that after 2025, all Jaguar Land Rover product will feature Nvidia Drive, a comprehensive system which incorporates a host of cutting edge technologies. Here’s the relevant bit from the press release:

This full-stack solution is based on NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion™, which features DRIVE Orin™ centralized AV computers; DRIVE AV and DRIVE IX software; safety, security and networking systems; plus, surround sensors. DRIVE Orin is the AI brain of the car and runs the Jaguar Land Rover Operating System, while DRIVE Hyperion is the central nervous system.

Since Nvidia already works with some of the biggest names in the business, including Toyota, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, and the Volkswagen Group, the partnership is a smart one. By working with Nvidia, Jaguar engineers will be able to harness a wide range of functionality, including automated driving and parking systems, active safety features, and driver monitoring for the next-generation models.

The Nvidia Drive architecture will also support over-the-air software updates, so new features will be able to be rolled out without customers having to visit a dealership. As artificial intelligence technology will prove increasingly important in modern vehicles, that functionality should pay more and more dividends.

As a Jaguar fan, I think the best news here is that working with an established player like Nvidia means that Jaguar will be able to focus more on the look and feel of its forthcoming vehicles, without sacrificing the kind of innovative tech feature luxury buyers increasingly crave. Personally, I’d love to see Jaguar reveal a new machine with the formidable presence of the Mark X, a cabin as comfortable as the womb, and a host of invisible tech features. Cross your fingers…
