2008 Jaguar XKR

Before we ring in 2022, let’s take a look at some of the most popular posts on JaguarForums this year!

Saying 2021 wasn’t a great year might be a bit of an understatement. For most people, the ongoing pandemic impacted every aspect of daily life, and there have been more than a few downs to go along with the ups. That said? The return to something-approaching-normal made me truly thankful for loads of things I’d taken for granted. In case you’re curious, the highlights include fancy cocktails made by a bartender, eating in restaurants, and air travel — even if I wasn’t at the pointy end of the plane.

But hey, plenty of good stuff happened too! I drove a miniature XK120 at the Western Washington All-British Field meet, watched a new Bond movie, and got confirmation that there are well-sorted lumps out there looking for a home. Also, the trend toward glorious restomods progressed unabated, and continuation cars meant that even hayseeds likes yours truly might get to see a Jaguar C-Type in person. I was also stoked to see SuperfastMatt got his Tesla-swapped Mark V on the road.

So before we ring in 2022, let’s take a look at some of the most popular posts on Jaguar Forums this year! Enjoy revisiting these great reads, and have a wonderful holiday!

How a Jaguar XJ6 Made Me Fall in Love with Cars

We’d come over from Seattle so I could look at what she’d referred to, just moments earlier, as “some old car.” But as it rolled slowly toward the passenger pickup area, it was clear the 1978 chocolate brown Jaguar XJ6 L had already won her over. And while I was trying not to let how gorgeous it looked in the gauzy Northwest sun cloud my judgement, I had fallen hard.

Vintage Defender is Ready to Wage War

The Land Rover Defender occupies a hallowed place among enthusiasts. It’s a go-anywhere, do-anything utility vehicle with widespread appeal. In America, Defender love is perhaps even more pronounced. That’s because the company only offered it here for a short period of time.  And now that the 25-year import ban no longer applies to many Defenders, dedicated Land Rover fans can get exactly what they want.

Koenig Specials

This Jaguar XJS Koenig Specials is For Sale

There’s a sandwich spread in the UK called Marmite and it’s very pungent and strong tasting. Because people tend to have a strong reaction to their first taste, it’s become a term used to describe something people will either love or hate. This XJS modified by Koenig Specials is definitely a Marmite car. At the time of writing, a $10,500 bid doesn’t meet the reserve on eBay. It’s also tough to call what sort of price it should sell for.

1972 Jaguar XJ6 Restomod

This 1972 Jaguar XJ6 is an Amazing Restomod

As I’ve written about for the forum previously, a Jaguar XJ6 was the car which made me fall in love with cars. I’ve also unapologetically admitted that the XJ6 I bought as a result was a lump. I looked for a Jaguar with a Chevy engine because I turn a wrench about as well as I turn down free drinks, so reliability was a big concern. Unfortunately, rust issues forced my hand with that car, and I’ve sworn that one day I’ll own the XJ6 of my dreams.

2008 Jaguar XKR

Emerald Green Jaguar XKR is a Cut Above

The Jaguar XK came on the scene in 1996, and ended production in 2014. While it prefaced the F-Type, many would argue that this sleek grand tourer was hugely influential in design and power. It rocks a high-performance engine, letting the big cat prowl like a beast. So, when we spotted this extraordinary emerald green 2008 Jaguar XKR in the forums, we were besotted.

Jaguar Mk II (1964) leaper hood ornament

Hood Ornaments on Modern Jaguars: Look Before You Leap(er)?

When we think of a classic Jaguar, we think of those gorgeous machines that came out of Coventry with a big cat leaping from the hood. The “leaper” hood ornament became the Jaguar’s mascot. It was a sexy, powerful image and the very definition of iconic. But it is rare to see on any Jaguar post-2005. So when you see a leaper on a modern Jaguar, is it a fit, or does it seem… off?

Jaguar V12 tera

Jaguar V12 Racing Engine Recreated for Modern Use

Back in 1966, Jaguar chief designer Claude Bailey created a unique V12 racing engine for the company’s XJ13 Le Mans Prototype. The plan was for this massive engine, which was designed specifically for racing, to help Jaguar dominate LeMans with all 12 cylinders roaring as the sleek racer rocketed down the Mulsanne Straight.

Jaguar XJS Lynx Eventer

Found For Sale: Super-Rare Jaguar XJS Lynx Eventer

I’m always on looking for interesting Jaguars being offered for sale, and I’m particularly interested in rare iron that’s hopelessly out of my price range. Since it’s one of only 67 ever produced, and is currently being offered for about $118,000, this custom 1991 XJS V12 checks both those boxes. So naturally, I love it. And while I can totally understand why Coventry never made a shooting brake version of its last V12 coupe, this car demonstrates just how well the lines look with a long roof.
