CCA December Jag Auction

Looking to buy a classic Jag? Check out five of our favorite jaw-dropping Jaguar listings up for auction December 7.

Who would have thought that the best place to look for restored old (or more modern) Jaguars would be the UK? (We kid, of course). Classic Car Auctions will host their December Classic Car Sale on Saturday, December 7, and they’ve promised a “Jaguar feast” for enthusiasts. From a 1964 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 FHC (pictured above) to an incredibly rare 1991 XJS Le Mans, there are more than a few good choices of Jags being put on the block. Despite the staggering number of cats being shown, we’ll show you our top five choices, presented in no particular order.

1964 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 FHC

According to the auction sites’ description, this E-Type scored an impressive condition score of 102/135. Being quintessentially British, the steering wheel is on the right side. Additionally, underneath the hood (or, should we say, bonnet?) is a restored original 3.8-liter inline-six. Incredibly, for the ’60s, that inline-six made a respectable 265 bhp and 240 ft-lbs of torque. What’s interesting about the Series 1 E-Type was the car was originally for export only in March of 1961 — the domestic market couldn’t get their hands on one until three months later.

1960 MK2 2.4 Auto

Looking at this thing, no one would think, “oh, that’s totally a sports sedan (in England, it’s a saloon).” But, it is. The engine in this one, which is the original 2.4-liter inline-six, made only 112 bhp and had a top speed of a little over 100 mph. So, to modern times it’s not all that sporty, but it sure as hell is good to look at.

To make matters cooler, the interior of the old girl is an eye-catching red leather. Does anything get any more posh and elegant than that? We don’t think so. She’s estimated to cost around £12,000 – 15,000, which in USD is roughly $15,594 – $19,500. Which isn’t all that bad for the ability to look so good. All you’d need is a pipe, leather driving gloves, and an accent and you’re good to go.

1989 XJS 5.3 liter V12 Convertible

Did you ever think you’d see a convertible V12 Jaguar with only 62,000 miles at it? Well, now you’re looking at one. Unsurprisingly, the XJ-S was Jaguar’s take on the Grand Touring craze that hit Europe during the time. This was made to take on the luxurious GT cars of the day from the likes of Porsche, Mercedes, and Bentley. In case it’s not very well known, the purpose of GT cars was to be powerful enough to travel at high speeds, but comfortable enough to be driven for long distances. In this XJ-S making 295 hp, you very well could. After all, it’s literally what it’s designed to do. Finally, being a convertible, it would make enjoying cross country road trips that much easier.

2007 2.7 XJ Sport Premium TDVi

Impressively, this diesel-powered XJ has only driven 55,000 miles. Instead of a heavy V12 under the midnight black hood, there’s a 2.7-liter six-cylinder diesel engine. While the numbers suggest it’s a small diesel engine, it makes a fairly decent amount of power. It’s reported to make 204 bhp and 321 ft-lbs of torque. On paper, this means that it’s rated to go just as well as the 3.0 liter V6 Jaguar made at the time. Though, being a diesel, means it got better mileage than the V6, also. So, decent power with good mileage? Sounds like a good bargain.

1988 XJ-S V12 TWR

This XJ-S is no ordinary XJ-S. While it does have the same 5.3-liter V12 as the Jaguar we mentioned previously, it’s been ‘enhanced’ by Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR). This meant that TWR spiced up the Jaguar with a body kit that was developed in a wind tunnel to optimize aerodynamics, 16 inch Speedline alloy wheels, lower and stiffer suspension, a recalibrated power steering system, and of course — a louder exhaust system. It also came with a much more stylish and sporty steering wheel and gear shifter. As cool as this car is, it’s also incredibly (and increasingly rare), so your chance to take this kitty home is coming!

That concludes our list of the five most worthy Jaguars to hit the auction block on December 7. To take a look at the full list of classic cars to be featured, here’s the link. Happy hunting!
