Well, the factory cassette deck and speakers need to be tossed in the bin. I've already upgraded the cassette deck to a new Sony head unit which has ipod control, aux input, etc. Apparently any single DIN head unit can be made to fit. The toughest part was finding one which had a relatively sedate, green illumination scheme.

Now for the speakers. I'm told that any 5.25" speaker with a 2.5" mounting depth will work, so that leaves tons of options.

I do a lot of critical listening to electronic music, so the system needs to reproduce low frequencies as well, which leads to my quandary:

Option A: 5.25"s up front and in the back, with some sort of amp & sub in the trunk. Problem is, how will the bass from the trunk make it to the passenger cabin? I understand there's a steel wall, insulation, and a fuel tank between the trunk and the rear seat.

Option B: 5.25"s up front, and some sort of custom enclosures in the rear seat armrest areas to house a couple of 8" or 10" subwoofers.

I'd like to keep things looking relatively stock, but I don't mind a box in the trunk. Again, I'm not out to wake the neighborhood, just want some nice, clean, punchy sound.
