Any idea if this will work with the stock, non-premium radio on a 2002 x-type?

well i did the install in my own vehicle, and i must say, even if you only used it for the b-tooth, then it is worth the 50 dollars. Being able to hear the ipod is a plus, although do not expect any kind of great sound quality, it is merely a way to hear the ipod, not anything more. The voice through the stereo system seems to be okay. Especially with the way our windows house the antenna, i was surprised by the fact i could fuly understand the callers and the such. Soooooo for 50 dollars, i have to rank it pretty it high. Now for the retail price of 200 it wouldnt rank as high, although the bluetooth is the only reason that i really wanted it for. Look at the ipod charging/listening as a bonus.

And yes iut will work with any stereo

I picked up one of these as well, and I was going to use it as a bluetooth add on when I do my pioneer D3. Question, the unit has a hardwired output as well, to run into an "aux" input.

Does the audio from the BT phone also work over the hardwired output?

Yes, the hardwire simply replaces the FM modulation.

Hey Jason, where did you end up mounting the screen for your ex-10 in the S? Just curious.

I actually put the screen flat, no bracket....to the upper right hand corner of the center console, then ran the main line under the dash piece and installed the main unit directly under the radio. Bluetooth works great actually when transmitting. HOWEVER, since my new office is 4 blocks from Alpine's offices, i may try to see if i can grab the direct unit to go into my antenna section. Then just run a switch somewhere to activate it. At this point im on the fence as to do a full install or just replace the headunit. I saw your pics and it made me want to yank everything out and do a full blown install.

Well If you want, you can practice on my car. All that's done so far is the front speakers and the D3. Still need to run wires, setup amps, I've got a BUNCH of stuff here, I need to pick and choose through the collection to decide what I want. Just waiting for it to warm up a bit. I have a garage but it's not heated.

Take a pic of where that screen sits if you have a chance. What did you use to mount it? Velcro / double sided tape?

Jason-Read your thread on the EX10 Alpine and found one on Amazon for $35.00 So I ordered one.Did somemore search and was on the M-BMW forum and one of their members Installed the EX10 with the KWE 155B which goes inline between the head and the antenna.I found one on Amazon and ordered it as well. This Past weekend I pulled the console and pulled out the radio and put the KWE155b in between the antenna and radio and ran the plug back under the console where I also put the little Alpine Connector Box.I ran the Monitor cable back to the left side of the dash.I cut a square opening in the storage box in the console to run the ipod cable.
The unit work great since the signal is feed directly to the radio before the outside stations can distort the signal from the ipod.I doubled faced the monitor to the dash with a 3M removable tape.I hide all the wiring under the console, all you see is 4inches of wire going to the monitor.Sorry no pics.

So do you think it was worth the money? just curious. As people are spending over 300 dollars for units to play ipod, just crious if you think it was worth it or not.
