Default Amp for Rockford Subs

Hey guys.

Still deciding what to get. Either two 12" Rockford Fosgate P2L's (rated at 500w RMS x 1 CH @ 4ohms) or the single 12" Rockford Fosgate P3L (rated at 500w RMS x 1CH @ 4ohms).

I was leaning towards the single P3L and a Pioneer amp that pushes 400w RMS @ 4ohms. I would rather the sub be a little underpowered to increase it's longevity, correct?

The other option would be having two 12" P1L's rated at 300w RMS to go with a Rockford amp that pushes 320w RMS @ 4ohms.

What do you think? Thanks.

Hi wesside, It sounds like you are a real Rockford fan. I personally have used their amps and subs myself. Though their amps are top notch, and like them along side many other brands, their subs to me just didn't match up. I know that is totally personal opinion, but if your not stuck on using the Rockfords, I can however, recommend a single 10" or 12" JL Audio w6 model, i haven't found anything that can match it yet. I can't give any opinion on the Pioneer amp, unfortunately.

I do agree to put a larger amp in there than your sub is rated, and have some power left over.

We do have a couple audio experts on here, so hopefully they'll see your post and give you some additional advice with a more broad experience in equipment and how to set them up

I think you're taking the opposite side... It was my understanding that too little power would only cause the maximum output to be low? With this, you would want an amp that pushed 400w RMS @ 4ohms to a sub that's rated at 500w RMS @ 4ohms.

And I'm 90% dead set on the Rockford subs. This year's model comes with the subs pre-enclosed and the vented enclosure is just awesome, yes?

Thanks for the reply.

I might be weird, but I like my stuff to match? I have RF speakers, a RF sub and RF amps sitting at home waiting to be installed. It'll be my 1st time using RF, so hoping for the best.

It doesn't make sense to me to have, say, a Focal amp and a Pioneer sub or whatever.

I'm kind of the same way however I can't seem to find an RF amp that can power these. The only one I saw was like $599 on amazon.

And which subs do you suppose I pair those up with? 2 12" P2L's and 1 12" P3L are both rated at 500w RMS.. :/
