Ok guys,
I have bee reading for about two and half hours and have retrieved a lot of useful information for myself.
I have not specificly seen any information that really helps me, so here is my issue:
I have a 2004 X-type that the CD changer went bad on me. I pulled the changer out of the trunk to get all of my CD's out and did not realise that the system uses D2B fiber optics. Now i can not get any sound out of the system. I put the changer back into the trunk and still nothing. I have check all of the fuses (F20, F43 and F44) and they are all ok.
What did i do wrong and what do I need to do to get it to work again? The Head unit displays radio and single cd as working but when I press CDC it does not see that the CD changer is even connected.
thanks for at least reading my post.

Well, there isn't a whole lot of things to check.
There were only 2 connectors if I remember correctly. One is power + "wake up" signal. The other is the D2B optical wire.
The obvious thing is to theck if the connectors are fitted properly. Then check if power is comming to the unit - see if it ejects the CD magazine - there are some motors that need to spin for that to happen and if you don't have power it won't work.
You can try a "reset" - which is disconnect the battery and re-connect it after 10 seconds, sometimes the units get confused and this helps bringing them back to life.
Other than that, the dealer can run a diagnostic on the D2B link.

I don't know of any good way to check the amp (assuming your amp is in the trunk on the D2B link). All audio comes in digital form via the D2B link - which is a giant loop. If the loop is broken (CD changer missing) the comonents start to behave eradically.
You can re-route your D2B cables - to eliminate the CD changer, but that is a tricky process. Decide on your own if you want to take the risk.
The D2B cables go in a loop - each black plastic connector has one "In" and one "Out". The optical cables can be unclipped from the black housing. To eliminate the CD changer you need to unclip one cable from the CD-chager connector (let's say the left one). then trace where the "right" cable goes, unclip it from that other connector and in it's place plug the "left" cable you just unclipped from the CD-changer connector.
After this process you will have one D2B connector with only one cable attached to it. Test your system again if it still does not work something else is toast besides your CD changer.
