Help with X-type door speakers, alpine
Hey guys,
I've browsed a few threads in this forum to see if they could help me, though my question wasn't entirely answered.
I have a 2002 X-Type with Navi and the alpine stereo, but both passenger door speakers are not working... tweeters do work fine, however. For a while, if I banged the front passenger armrest that speaker would start working again, though it always sounded quieter than those on the drivers side... now it appears to not come on at all. I imagine this is a connector issue. The rear passenger speaker has not worked for a long time. First off, any idea what else this could be besides a blown speaker or a speaker connector issue? Should I be looking for my amp?
Next, if i indeed do have to open the doors up, I figure I should upgrade while I'm in there. Infinity Kappa's, at 2 ohms, seems to be a good way to go http://www.amazon.com/Infinity-Kappa.../dp/B0009Q7J54
If I do purchase those speakers, can i just hook them up to the stock speaker connectors, without having to fuss with a new amp and new wires?
Thanks for any help

you don't want those infinity speakers in there. they are 3 way speakers, which in most cases, will sound like crap because the soundstage is incorrect. in addition to this, you already have a tweeter for the highs, so what you want to do is replace the speakers in the doors with something of the same species, which is a mid-bass driver. at that point it would pay to purchase a component set, which will give you new tweeters as well. you could just not use the tweeters, since there are many decent component sets that are cheap enough as it is.

Thanks for the advice, I passed on the infinity's. Instead, I went polk 2-ways with http://www.crutchfield.com/p_107DB65...b651&tp=95
Supposedly, these have better bass response. Tweeters are included, but I doubt I'll use them unless I feel adventurous and swap them out for the stock tweeters (which suck, in my opinion). I'm going to run them off the headunit so we'll see how that works (have premium w/ navi). I'll put a post up when I'm done
