isimple makes one that you can pull the head-unit out and unhook the antenna and put it into the isimple box then plug the box back into the radio. Pretty simple it was $85 at bestbuy and it took me about 30min to install it on my xj6. It works with my iphone for music and hands free calling

THere are several threads running right now, within in the last week or so, in the XJ8 XJR forum that will tell you exactly how to hard wire an AUX cable to the CD changer wiring. I just did this in my 2000 XJ8, and it wasn't very difficult - if you're mildly mechanical and can do simple wire cuts and crimps. It sounds great! The post below should provide you with links to all you need to know.

RE: Cassete adaptors and FM modulators - I'm sorry to disagree, but NO cassete unit ever made has the bandwidth available in the heads to receive all the information contained in modern audio signals, NOR does the FM receiver. They are both severely bandwidth limited and introduce noise.
If those that use them are happy with the performance, great. But some of us WILL notice the loss in low and high frequency response and the additional noise, especially in the reasonably good stock Jag stereo system. I am in no way an 'audiophile', but definitely can tell the difference in a 5 second blind test.
FACT: direct connection to the head unit is the only way to go to avoid loss of fidelity. Because some may be unable to hear the difference does not change the fact.
