Ipod hook up and aftermarket amp hook up using Audiocontrol unit

Hi there. I saw that the audiocontrol units have a factory integration unit that allows you to turn the speaker level outs into rca's for a multi channel amp. In addition, it has a aux input for ipod or otherwise along with a wired remote that allows you to switch between your factory stereo and the aux input and it also allows you to adjust the aux in volume on the remote.
Anyone ever consider this to juice up their stock strereo? Is the amp in the trunk a 5 channel? Would I just need to figure out what the speaker wires are and then run extensions to my new 5 channel amp?
I'm thinking of adding a sub, the audio control unit, and a 5 channel alpine amp, the pdx 5 channel model. It puts out about 110 w x 4 and 400 for the sub.
