Default iPod/iPhone Connections? What are you using? (Non-ACM)

I didnt want to pony up the $250+ for an ACM, so I bought a Griffin Road Trip Aux and have it connected via Monster Cable cassette adapter. It does the job, sounds good and doesnt look bad at all. Less than $50 (Roadtrip $25 and Monster Cable Cassette $15) off ebay.

Would love to see more from others. I have a '98 VdP, and am looking for an iPhone hardwire solution. I've done the bluetooth (Motorola T505) andin LA there is just too much traffic on the bandwidth as well as the roads!

I'm willing to replace the entire head unit, but not sure where to start.

Ideas?

Search the forum for 'CD butcher' and you'll find quite a few links that show how to modify the CD wiring to gain an AUX input for pre '03 cars. (starting 03, many began using fiber optic instead of copper).

An example that shows (a few posts in) what I did -
