Muffled bass only-power amp?

I am trying to decide whether or not to buy a 2003 X-type, with the premium audio system. All I get when I turn on the radio/CD is bass... there is no manual in the vehicle... I checked in the trunk by the CD changer for the power amp, but did not see one... is this where it's located, and if missing, is this why I don;t hear anything except muffled bass when the volume is all the way up? Thanks...

couple things it could be:
Speakers have been removed before they traded it in, speakers could be blown, specifically the tweeters, amp could have been bypassed to have different amps put it, and they took them with them before getting rid of the car.
No matter what though, dont let the stereo sway you from a decent deal. we have ways of fixing that

Thanks for the advice... the midrange and tweeters are barely audible... the woofer assembly is in place in the trunk... I found a national used Jag parts dealer in GA, and they said they had the amplifier for the premium sound system, so I ordered it... it showed up today, and when I opened the box, it was the woofer assembly... I called them and the salesperson said the amplifier was part of the woofer assembly... I had read elsewhere that it was a standalone piece of electronics, usually right next to the CD changer... there are 3-5 different connectors floating around near the CD changer... am I missing something? I really don't want to spend $120 at a Jaguar dealer to find out I am correct... any help would be appreciated...
