Radar Detector mounting location :: '00 XJR
After having several "near misses" with the Law on I280 I bought an Escort Passport 8500 X50 Blue radar detector.
For the first few days I just mounted it low on the dashboard top and plugged it into the cigarette lighter, but once I was happy it was going to be useful (no falsing, actually detects things) I wanted somewhere more permanent to mount it. I finally decided on mounting it up beside my rear view mirror. I had ordered the hard wire kit when I bought it so I took the roof console down and found an ignition live in there and hardwired it.
As the car is parked 50% in my garage and 50% is a secured work carpark I don't need to take it down, although I can if I am leaving the car in an unsecured carpark.
Interestingly I noticed doing this that the XJs do not have the built in tinted strip along the top of the windscreen that is common in most cars so you can mount the detector up high on the screen, which is apparently good for detection range.
Works for me, maybe it's useful for others.
