Remote key fob stopped working?
My S-Type remote key fobs have a habit of not working and then working again. This fix has helped a lot with the problem. The issue appears to be down to the battery losing its connection with the tiny contact in the fob. Some times even tapping the fob in your hand is enough to get the contact back. But if that does not work, before you get a new fob or a new battery, check the contact is secure. Here is how.......
On the back of the fob is a small indent.
Gently use a screw driver to prize open the fob so it splits in two.
Then in the part without the key gently prize it open, it splits down the middle to reveal the insides.
Use a small screwdriver to open that up to find the battery compartment
The screwdriver is now pointing at the culprit. If you fiddle about it will eventually click into place. If it just drops out when you open the battery compartment, it has definitely been the problem! I have tried to bend it slighty, but it feels very fragile and I was worried it would snap.
If that doesn't work, change the battery before you start to look at a replacement key fob.
There is no guarantee this will work long term as no matter how well the contact is refitted, it can work lose again. But hopefully it will save you some money!
