Removing Motorola Hands free from XK8

Hello,
I just got my 2002 XK8 and want to remove the Motorola hands-free phone adapter from the center console. With Bluetooth headsets and modern phones, I don't have much need for the existing system, and I don't have a phone that fits.
My question is, is there anything I should be aware of when removing the adapter? I'm very good with electronics, but I don't want to do anything that may harm the system, or introduce electrical gremlins, and not having experience with this makes me a bit cautious!
As a second option, are there adapters that can be plugged into the Motorola adapter to run a modern Droid based phone via the USB port? Hummm! That would be a really cool option.
Thanks!

Go here
Jaguar Owner Information (prs01736)
and download the original installation instructions for that phone kit. That should help you through the removal process.
