Voice control system

I'm toying with having the voice activation added to my 2005 S-Type. I already have the touch screen nav/audio/climate system. According to the accessories book, I need a "Voice Module" and a "Fitting Kit". I'm told that this will run about $1300 installed.
One question I have is whether these could be moved from this car to another, assuming the new one is within the same VIN range as this one.
Another question is how hard would this be to DIY.
Thanks.

Hi,
I've done it to mine and it's pretty simple... if you already have the phone installation i.e. with the rooflining mounted microphone etc and the nav screen.
The module fits into the boot behind the DVD Nav / CD Changer etc stack. There will be a connector with a jumpered plug inserted into it. You remove the jumper block and plug the connector into the voice module. The hardest bit is the fact that the module needs to be in the optical D2B network which means you need an optical cable. This cable varies depending on what you have fitted (nav, phone, premium sound etc). All these units have to be serially connected in a specific order for the system to work. You can make up your own by modifying basic leads which can be got from ebay cheaply (this is what I ended up doing) but you have to be a deft handler of optical connectors and small jewellers screwdrivers to do it.
Once it's all connected then the system should automatically recognise the unit - this can be tested by putting the head unit into debug mode and making sure voice capability is checked.
As for moving it between cars, yes that can be done - just remove it and the additional optical cable, refit the jumpered plug and the car is back to the way it was.
There is a document on the Jaguar GTR site which is the official fitting guide.
